A Refl ecࢼ on by Fr. James

Welcome to the Holy Week, which begins this weekend with the celebra on of Palm Sunday. This week is the peak of the Churches’ Liturgical Calendar and the most important week for us Catholics. I am glad the Pandemic is declining consistently, making it possible for us to celebrate Holy Week and Easter this year. However, you will no ce that there will be a few excep ons to the Easter Liturgies this year. First of all, I thank those who have already received their vaccines. We encourage everyone to observe our parish safety protocols during the Easter Liturgies this year, especially to wear a facemask, maintain physical distance and use hand sani zers, even if you have already received your two shots of the vaccine. Here is what to expect during Holy Week and Easter Liturgies this year: Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday will be celebrated in the usual way this year except we will use only the Simple Entrance for all Masses. The Palms will be provided as you enter the Church’s doors. The Mass will start with the Commemora on of the Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem from the back of the Church. We will live-stream all the Masses. However, as is usual, Holy Communion will be off ered at the Main Entrance only a er the 5pm Mass on Saturday and 9am Mass on Sunday. Chrism Mass. The Chrism Mass will be celebrated on Monday of the Holy Week, March 29th at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Phoenix. Only priests and Deacons are allowed to par cipate in the Chrism Mass this year. All the priests and Religious in the Diocese are expected to renew their vows/promise and commitments during the Mass. The Bishop will also bless the sacred oils that we use for anoin ng at Bap sm, Confi rma on and Anoin ng of the Sick. Holy Thursday. The celebra on of the Lord’s Supper will take place at 7 pm. The washing of feet and the to the Altar of Repose will be omi ed this year. We will have one hour of Adora on of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church right a er Mass. Holy Communion will be off ered at the Main Entrance for 30 minutes following the Mass. Good Friday. The Passion of the Lord will be celebrated at 7 pm as usual, except we will omit the Venera on of the Cross this year. Holy Communion will be off ered for 30 minutes at the Main Entrance following the Passion Service. The Easter Vigil. The Easter Vigil Liturgy will be celebrated at 7:30 pm on Saturday. Mass will be as usual this year, except we will not have any Bap sms. Holy Communion will be off ered at the Main Entrance for 30 minutes following the Mass. This is to remind everyone that the Bishop’s dispensa on from Sunday and Easter obliga on is s ll in place. I wish everyone a Blessed Holy Week. Fr. James

Feast of Faith: Parish Holiday Offi ce Hours The Liturgies of Holy Week Please note that the parish offi ce will be open un l Holy Week is the culmina on of the liturgical year. 12 pm on Holy Thursday, closed on Good Friday, and During these holy days, the liturgy will lead us, with closed Easter Monday. If you have an emergency Jesus, to the depths and to the heights. requiring a priest, call 480,961.1610 ext. 7. It begins with a harsh juxtaposi on, as we carry palms in remembrance of Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem and then listen to the Passion according to Ma hew, as the King is handed over for crucifi xion. Then, on Holy Thursday, we remember the night Jesus was handed over—the night he gave himself for us and to us, to live in our midst forever in the sacrament of his Body and Blood. On Good Friday, we touch with our hands the mystery of the Lord’s cross, the instrument of torture that has become the tree of life. Then, at the great Easter Vigil, the ligh ng of the speaks to us of the triumph of light over darkness, of life over death. The resurrec on of the Lord becomes a living reality in our midst as the catechumens for whom the Church has prayed throughout Lent are plunged into the mystery of Christ’s death and share in the glory of his resurrec on. These are indeed holy days, the culmina on of the Church’s liturgy, and an invita on to par cipate in the very life of Christ. Come, let us worship. ~ Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

From The Principal of St. John Bosco Catholic School Dear Parishioners, We just completed our fi rst week back from and are rolling full-steam-ahead to the end of the school year. There is s ll much learning to be done and our eager students are soaking it up and progressing nicely. Parents and teachers held virtual conferences to make sure children are on track to meet their academic goals. Most of our staff have completed their COVID-19 vaccina ons and are thus feeling a modicum of protec on. Nevertheless, we are strictly adhering to health protocols on our campus and enjoying record-low absentee rates as a result, for which we are truly grateful.
