Welcome to Cub Scouts • Boys are assigned to a Den, usually a group of six to eight boys. • Dens are led by volunteers (parents). These are your Den Leader (DL) and Assistant Den Leader (ADL). • Dens meet together at least twice a month. Welcome to Cub Scouts • All of our Dens together make up Pack 899. • The Pack is run by parent volunteers consisting of: – Committee Chairman – Cubmaster – Den leaders – Committee Members at large – Special Event Coordinators Welcome to Cub Scouts Welcome to Cub Scouts • The Pack Committee (or just “The Committee”) is the administrative arm of the pack and includes den leaders, parents of boys in the pack, and members of the Chartered Organization. Khaki-colored pants may also be acceptable as well as official BSA uniform pants, if you so choose. Dark-colored socks are fine. Again, Nothing Ragged! The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, patches, arrow points, belt loops, and other awards and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with the boys on advancement projects. Welcome to Cub Scouts Welcome to Cub Scouts Advancement Plan Bobcat The Bobcat rank is for all boys who join Cub Scouting regardless of age. The Bobcat Badge is earned by learning very basic cub scouting lessons (scout salute, scout handshake, scout motto, etc.). Welcome to Cub Scouts Welcome to Cub Scouts Advancement Plan Tiger Cub There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. Each area has a Family Activity, a Den Activity, and a “Go See It” Activity. Extra “Electives” or non-mandatory items can also be earned. The Tiger Cub, working with his Adult Partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the 1st grade. Welcome to Cub Scouts Welcome to Cub Scouts Advancement Plan Bear Bears have finished 2nd grade (or are age 9). There are 24 Bear Achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these 24 to earn the Bear Badge. The Achievements chosen are by the DL with some input by the parent(s). Like Wolf, extra activities count as Electives and Arrow Points. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank. Welcome to Cub Scouts Advancement Plan Webelos WE’ll BE LOyal Scouts Webelos is a two year program (Webelos I and Webelos II) for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10). Webelos is a transition from the Cub Scout den to the Webelos Patrol to the Boy Scout troop. Welcome to Cub Scouts Advancement Plan Arrow of Light is the highest award for achievement in Cub Scouts. Welcome to Cub Scouts Parental/Adult Involvement in Activities Welcome to Cub Scouts • Den Leader Responsibilities – Get Leader Specific Training – Coordinate Den Meetings – Attend Pack Committee Meetings (1 per month). – Attend Pack Meetings ( 1 per month). These may include Scouting for Food, Adopt-A-Park (a cleanup program at the Fallston Rec. fields), parades, caroling at Mariner Health, etc. Welcome to Cub Scouts Camping Age-appropriate camping programs are packed with theme-oriented action that brings Cub Scouts into the great out-of-doors. Summer Day Camp comes to the boys in neighboring packs and lasts between 2 and 5 days. Pack 899 traditionally offers registration at Harford District (Bel Air) and Dulaney District (Carney) Day Camps. Resident Camp at Camp Oest is at least a 3-day experience where Cub and Webelos Scouts camp within a developed theme of adventure and excitement. Camping programs combine fun and excitement with doing one's best, getting along with others, and developing an appreciation for ecology and the world of the outdoors. Welcome to Cub Scouts .
