Mowry rode her own 6-year-old gelding CP He Will Be Epic Special Leader (“Will”) to victory in the Open Slot Race with the fastest time of Confederate Leader si 103 the event, a 15.150 on Friday night, to win $4,266. Their time car- Southern Streaker ried over to the Open 5D for another $3,770 including incentive Epic Leader si 93 money for total earnings of $8,036. Aboard Epic Guy (“King”), Mowry won the Derby for $7,235, Fire Water Flit Sudden Fame si 86 picked up $3,322 in open carryover and incentive earnings, and si 98 picked up another $1,580 for sixth in the Open Slot for total earn- Mighty Mindy ings of $12,137. Worth This past weekend the last American Qualifier was held in conjunction with the 2D Super Race at the Cowtown Coliseum in Ft Worth where the SemiFinals for The American will be held next 2D SUPER RACE WINNER Monday (March 1, 9 am). Tammy Ochs and the royally bred Return Ofthe Chicado topped the 2D Super Race but did not carry over Return Ofthe Chicado & Tammy Ochs into the American Qualifier since they were already qualified. Her Dash For Cash time of 13.6 in Cowtown is a smoking time, so we caught up with Cash Not Credit si 114 her going into her runs (she qualified 2 horses to the Semis) at the si 103 Cute And Sassy Semi-Finals for The American. Chicados Cash si 90 BRR: Can you walk us through your run at the Super Race in Cow- Flaming Jet town? What did you find out from this run that will help you during Chicado Flame si 102 the The American SemiFinals (also ran at the Cowtown)? Sheza Chicado Ochs: I’m just trying to get nice clean runs. He’s never rodeoed si 98 before, so this is all new for him. I took him in slack the rodeo Return ofthe Chicado a couple of weeks ago and he was scared in the alley and was a 2013 Bay Gelding little lost at his first & almost stopped at the 2nd barrel. I ran him Dash For Cash the next night and he was better but he was still lost at the first & Dashing Investment si 114 clocked a 14.0. So I decided I wasn’t trusting him going to his 1st si 88 and I needed to just send him in there. So last Friday I ran him Cute Investment si 103 again at the rodeo and everything started coming together and we Less Return ended up second with a 14.0. So on Sunday I just tried riding the Good Investment same way and it seemed to work. In the recently released 2020 Cheyenne Frontier Days report, CEO Tom Hirsig kept open the possibility of the event returning this summer after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event that had run for 123 consecutive summers. “We are optimistic for 2021, this will be a year it takes the whole community to get on board to make Cheyenne Frontier Days happen,” Hirsig wrote in the report. “We have challenges but our organization and our community have a cowboy spirit that will never be defeated. We are looking forward to a great 125th celebration honoring the legendary Chris LeDoux.” Reno Rodeo Makes Plans for 2021 Organizers of the Reno Rodeo plan to have the event return this summer, and tickets went on sale Feb. 22. The Reno Rodeo was canceled last year due to the pandemic. The Reno Rodeo is set to return June 17–26, pending COVID-19 restrictions. Fans will have two options for purchasing tickets: Online at mynevadatickets.com, ticket service and handling fees apply or in person at the Lawlor Events Center ticket office Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (PT). No handling charge or service fee. Masks, social distancing and capacity limitations will be required in accordance with local mandates.
