Freestyle • Acrobatics that are judged • When moving water falls from shallower to deeper, the downward force of the water hits the bottom and is reflected up, resulting in a stationary wave – usually called a standing wave • This is where the freestyle paddlers perform their tricks

International Class or IC Canoe Sailing • Propelled like a sailboat – started when one person put a sail on a canoe, then a second and then they raced • Racers navigate around a marked course • Characteristic is a huge amount of sail (10 square meters) over a relatively small canoe 5m 20cm. • This results in the need for a sliding, which can be shifted to the upwind side to counter balance (hike out) the force of the wind • It’s like sailing a catamaran with one upwind hull
