Urban Outdoor Youth Leader

Salary: $127.50/day Duration of Employment: Camps run from Jul 6th – Aug 28th (Monday – Friday) Camp Staff Training June 28-30 & July 2-3, 2020

A. NATURE & SCOPE Urban Outdoor Youth Leaders introduce kids to the best outdoor activities within the city limits! Through cycling, wall climbing, rafting, swimming, canoeing and many other fun activities, we get youth active and outside! This position is responsible for providing a fun, safe, and healthy environment for children (grades 1- 8) registered in our summer outdoor programs. Urban Outdoor Youth Leaders are required to supervise children and implement weekly activities for a variety of different day-camps. Leaders will report to the Youth Program Coordinators and will be required to work from the end of June to the end of August 2020. If you want to spend your summer outside floating down the river on a raft, leading a bike trip, or going for a hike with a group of kids then this position is for you!

B. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Enthusiasm for working with young people in the outdoors • Meet and greet guardians and campers on arrival and departure from camp • Implement all aspects of the daily schedule • Provide quality care, fun, and supervision to all campers • Participate in all group activities and encourage camper participation. Activities include (but not exclusive to): cycling, wall climbing, rafting on the Bow River, swimming, longboarding, canoeing and hiking • Provide first aid care when necessary and notify the Youth Program Coordinators of actions • Provide weekly written reports to Youth Program Coordinators • Abide by the Outdoor Centre’s Policies and Procedures

C. QUALIFICATIONS • General knowledge and experience of outdoor activities in and around Calgary • A bicycle in good working condition is required for this job • Must be available and willing to work Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:45pm • To be available for staff training dates (listed above) • Experience and/or educational training working with youth (grades 1-8) • Valid (or intent to get) Standard First Aid and CPR • Valid (or intent to get) security clearance check for the vulnerable sector
