Minutes Patient Reference Group Meeting

Wednesday 28th August 2019 6.00pm – 8pm

Present: JW (patient), EW (patient), TW (patient), AR (patient), David Jones (Practice Manager), Deborah Snook (Clinical Performance Manager), Marie Desouza (GP), Tim Brown (GP), BBz (Dr Bengi Beyzade), SBBz (family member).

Apologies: AC (patient)

1) Welcome DS welcomed everyone to the meeting & apologised for the long delay between meetings.

2) Introductions There were introductions for those who didn’t know each other.

3) Ground Rules There was a very brief recap of ground rules.

4) Minutes of the last meeting – the minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

5) Matters arising (that are not on the agenda). There were no matters arising.

6) Primary Care Networks (Dr Tim Brown/ Dr Marie Desouza)

a) TB & MDES outlined the new GP contract changes have set up something called Primary Care Networks (PCN) which are groups of GP practices working together in networks. b) In there are 4 PCNs. CMP is part of the south PCN with 6 other practices – these are practices we have historically worked with in the past on things like the EC1 New Deal & other projects. c) The group watched a brief NHS video relating to this. d) There would likely be some data sharing as some targets would be across the PCN and may lead to patients being seen by other practice

This surgery is within the Islington Primary Care Trust area staff. TW raised questions about security. JW said as long as there are adequate safeguards in place it could be OK. e) There will also be other staff ‘wrapped round’ the PCN, such as pharmacists & social prescribers and the PCN would work with other organisations. f) MD said the PCN will have a duty to consult local patients from the practices.

7) Doctor Link – online triaging (Dr Bengi Bezyade)

Dr Beyzade described the Doctor Link online ‘triage’ tool & how patients are encouraged to use it ( as set of questions about symtpoms) to be directed to the correct venue for care. For instance directed to pharmacy, A&E, self care or book with GP. In the latter case the patient is taken to an online booking page. The practice is planning a soft launch.

The group discussed how best to soft launch this. There was discussion about students being a good cohort and perhaps launching during flu Saturday. Maybe also directing people to the reception desk to get help to set up. Patients have to register themselves with the service and get a log in.

The members of the group said they were happy to give it a try.

8) Update on NHS changes (Deborah Snook)

9) Any Other Business.

a) TW said that the BP pod needs some instructions on how to use – it is not straightforward. b) JW asked if we could look into provision of water in reception.

10) Possible Agenda items for next meeting a) PMA role. b) Permanent changes to the NHS

11) Next CMP meeting date(s): Agreed to put some dates in the diary and the next meeting would be before the end of the year, preferably in November.
