María’s bravery following her F1 testing accident and the dedication she displayed afterwards – not only in promoting female involvement in motor sport but also safety on the road and track – will be missed. Elsewhere, it was a year of great success for women competitors and in this edition we look at Lucile Cypriano’s victory in the VW and commission-supported shoot-out for a place in next year’s VW Scirocco R-Cup and reveal how the FIA European Rallycross Championship has become a haven for female racers. After thousands of test kilometers including the recent test day at Le Mans, the new Audi R18 TDI is ready for its first race. At the 1000-kilometer race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) on May 7, Audi Sport Team Joest will perform its “dress rehearsal” for the Le Mans 24 Hours. The racing debut of a new race car is always a very special event and Audi Sport has good experiences in this regard. Since 2000 every new sports prototype of the brand with the four rings has won its first race. In 2000, 2006 and 2009 Sebring in Florida (USA) was the venue of the respective debut victories of the R8, R10 TDI and R15 TDI models. The updated R15 TDI, internally designated as “R15 plus,” won its maiden race as well, at Le Castellet (France). Now Spa-Francorchamps is the track to see the debut of the latest LMP1 sports car made by Audi which turns the company’s ultra-lightweight technology into a visual experience and which is equipped with a new type of ultra-compact V6 TDI engine. -

Subaru Re-Affirms Commitment to Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship
Subaru Re-Affirms Commitment to Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship Cherry Hill, N.J. May 17, 2016 - Subaru of America, Inc. has announced a multi-year plan for Subaru Rally Team USA’s participation in the burgeoning Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. Subaru Rally Team USA, jointly managed by Subaru motorsports arm Subaru Tecnica International and Subaru technical partner Vermont SportsCar expect to attend at least eight rounds of the 2016 Red Bull GRC series while substantially increasing testing and development work on the new Subaru WRX STI GRC Supercar. The Subaru program will intensify its technical efforts to target winning the series’ Drivers and Manufacturer’s championships in 2017. Team drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen will drive for the team in Red Bull GRC while long-time Subaru driver David Higgins will increase his role with the team as the lead test driver. Subaru Rally Team USA will join the Red Bull GRC grid at the Dallas round held June 3- 4 at Fair Park, Dallas, Texas with driver Sverre Isachsen, while Bucky Lasek will compete in the skate competition at Summer X Games. Lasek and Isachsen will next attend the Red Bull GRC BASE round held July 2-3. “We are taking some important steps this season to increase our technical and engineering efforts,” stated Lance Smith, Vermont SportsCar Team Principal. “Vermont SportsCar is working closely with STI in 2016 to take this program to the next level and I'm really looking forward to the future.” The Red Bull Global Rallycross series takes the best attributes of circuit, off-road, and rally racing that results in intense competition at venues that are fan-friendly. -

Differences between each year of STi by STi FR3AK The Subaru Impreza STI, (formerly WRX STi, officially changed in 2006 to STI) is the highest standard-edition trim in the Subaru Impreza compact car line, produced by Japanese automaker Subaru. In the late 1980s, Subaru created the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) division to coordinate development for the FIA World Rally Championship and other motorsports activities. After the company had grown, the division was used to create high-performance consumer versions of the Subaru Impreza WRX, an all-wheel drive car with a turbocharged boxer engine, leading to the development of the Impreza WRX STi. The Subaru World Rally Team has used a race-prepared version of the WRX STI as its rally platform since the model trim's creation. The different versions were marketed with consecutive numbers. Another way to tell the version of a WRX STi was to look at the chassis code. Sedan STi Model Codes were GC8, Coupes were GM8 and Station Wagons were GF8, followed by a letter from A to G. There was a GC chassis version of the RS released in 2001 as well in the United States. One common misconception is that every Impreza between 92-01 were "GC8's". The code breakdown is as follows; G - stands for Impreza, C - sedan, M - coupe, F - station wagon, The 8 stands for the 2.0 L turbo motor. -

Lauderdale, FL. Subaru factory drivers Bucky Lasek, Sverre Isachsen, and Travis Pastrana took part in the final pre-season test session at the Florida International Rally and Motorsports School in Starke, FL. Co-developed by Vermont SportsCar and Subaru Tecnica International, The VT15x starts life as a production 2015 WRX STI, then receives extensive upgrades to the driveline, suspension, and aerodynamics creating an STI capable of 0-60 in 2 seconds that can handle pavement, dirt, and jumps. True to its factory design, the VT15x features a turbocharged four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine and all-wheel drive. As a warm up to his X Games Rallycross entry, Subaru team driver Travis Pastrana joined the test as well. Pastrana will compete in the 2014 WRX STI rallycross car he ran last season with new performance upgrades until his VT15x is completed. “The technical collaboration between Vermont SportsCar and Subaru Tecnica International is beginning to show its fruits in testing,” stated Rob Weir, Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager. “Compared to our last version of rallycross car, which took us to five podiums last year, the VT15x is a revolution in terms of outright speed and maneuverability. -

Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. This is all particularly relevant for the development of future generations of factory-spec sports cars. Maximum sporting performance and highest efficiency are at the heart of "Porsche Intelligent Performance".
