It is a multi-sites operation enterprise. The assessment was completed in compliance with the AWS Standard Version 1.0 dated on July 2015. Kunshan China Thrive Circuit Board Co., Ltd (referred as China Thrive below) is a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) manufacturer, mainly producing multi-layer board. It is a subordinate of Huaxin Group. It has site 1(code number) locates at Room 8, No.1618 South Qinfeng Road, Qiandeng Town, Kunshan City Jiangsu Province, China. This Site occupies about 22000 square meters area for production; currently it has about 550 employees. In this premises, there is another subordinate of Huaxin Group, which called Kunshan Huaxin Circuit Board Co. Ltd.(refer to as Huaxin below) . Huaxin is also a PCB manufacturer who produced double-layer PCB. The industrial and domestic wastewater of the China Thrive is emitted to the wastewater treatment plant of Huaxin for disposal. China Thrive also has another production site, which is about 4km away from the registered address.This site 2(code number) address is No. 301,Hongyang Road, Qiandeng Town,Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, China. It occupies about 36000 square meters area for production, currently it has about 600 employees. In this premise of Hongyang Road location, there is another subordinate of Huaxin Group, which called Jiangsu Huashen Electronics Co. Ltd.(refer to as Huashen below) . Huashen is also a PCB manufacturer who produced HDI PCB. The industrial and approval. domestic wastewater of the China Thrive is emitted to the wastewater treatment plant of Huashen for disposal. The main production process are the same in two premises, which is The main production process is cutting-drilling-exposure-etching- multiband- pressing-electronic plate-pattern transfer-etching-solder mask-surface treatment-molding-testing-packing. The site only uses municipal water for production. The wastewater will be discharged into wastewater treatment plant of the Huaxin or the Huashen. Then the wastewater flows to the municipal wastewater treatment plant for further disposal. Both of the sites are within the area of the Wusong river catchment. The Wusong river is an important river in the Jiangsu Province, which origins from the Lake Taihu and flows to the Shanghai then into the sea. The wastewater of the site(treated by the facility’s site wastewater treatment plant) first flow into the local water body called Qian Deng Pu, and then flow into Wusong River, and finally flow to Shanghai and enter the sea.The sites only use the municipal water. The water is mainly from two resources, one is from Kuilei Lake, which is small branch of the Lake Taihu. Another one is Yangtze River, the extraction point is on the upstream of the emission point. However, there is a lack of systematic understanding on the spatiality of PMR from a pluralistic perspective. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the spatiality of PMR in the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration (YRDUA) using city-level data on gross domestic product (GDP), population share, and urban income growth for the period 2000–2013. The results reveal that economically, the YRDUA is experiencing greater polycentricity, but in terms of social welfare, the region manifests growing monocentricity. We further find that the triple transition framework (marketization, urbanization, and decentralization) can greatly explain the observed patterns.

    The Transformation of China’s Urban Entrepreneurialism: The Case Study of the City of Kunshan By Shiuh-Shen Chien, National Taiwan University Fulong Wu, University College London Abstract This article examines the formation and transformation of urban entrepreneurialism in the context of China’s market transition. Using the case study of Kunshan, which is ranked as one of the hundred “economically strongest county-level jurisdictions” in the country, the authors argue that two phases of urban entrepreneurialism—one from the 1990s until 2005, and another from 2005 onward—can be roughly distinguished. The first phase of urban entrepreneurialism was more market driven and locally initiated in the context of territorial competition. The second phase of urban entrepreneurialism involves greater intervention on the part of the state in the form of urban planning and top-down government coordination and regional collaboration. The evolution of Kunshan’s urban entrepreneurialism is not a result of deregulation or the retreat of the state. Rather, it is a consequence of reregulation by the municipal government with the goal of territorial consolidation. Introduction There is no doubt that local authorities the world over play a crucial role in promoting economic development in the context of globalization (Harvey 1989; Brenner 2003; Ward 2003; Jessop and Sum 2000). On the one hand, globalization may cause huge unexpected job loss when investors decide to shut down their companies and move out. Capital flight may also create opportunities in a different site. To deal with these challenges and opportunities, local authorities become entrepreneurial in improving their regions, in the hopes of accommodating more business investment and attracting more quality human capital.

Over the last decades, we have emphasized bringing the world into Duke through our curriculum and research interests, in the diversity of our faculty and students and the breadth and depth of colloquia and cultural programming. But we have entered a new phase of taking Duke to the world, consistent with our mission to develop and communicate new knowledge and to put knowledge in the service of society, understood not just regionally or nationally but also globally.
