Cursos realizados: 33 Cursos de Iniciadores. Curso de Monitor de Castilla y León. Curso de Monitor del País Vasco (Bloque Común). Curso de Monitor del País Vasco. Curso de Monitor de Castilla y León (Bloque Común). Curso de Entrenadores Básico de Aguas Tranquilas del País Curso de Monitor de Baleares. Vasco. Todos ellos realizados en colaboración con las correspondientes Federaciones Autonómicas, con algunas de las cuales ya tenemos firmados convenios de colaboración con sus respectivas administraciones autonómicas. Se ha realizado un curso del Bloque Común del primer nivel de formación, en colaboración con Castilla y León y el País Vasco, lo cual nos ha permitido realizar la convocatoria posterior del primer curso de Entrenador Básico en Aguas Tranquilas, que se ha desarrollado en Irún. Toda la formación pretende seguir los requisitos que establece el R.D. 1913/1997 de 19 de diciembre, por el que se configuran como enseñanzas del régimen especial conducentes a la obtención de titulaciones de técnicos deportivos, aprobándose las directrices generales de los títulos y las correspondientes enseñanzas mínimas.     CANOEING AT OLYMPIC GAMES 1924 1936 – 2008 1 C A N O E I N G AT THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPICS The 1996 Summer Olympics officially known as the Games of the XXVI Olympiad and unofficially known as the Centennial Olympics were held July 19 to August 4 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Atlanta was selected on September 18, 1990 in Tokyo, Japan, over Athens, Belgrade, Manchester, Melbourne and Toronto. Atlanta's bid to host the Summer Games that began in 1987 was considered a long-shot, since the U.S. had hosted the Summer Olympics just 12 years earlier in Los Angeles. Atlanta's main rivals were Toronto, whose front running bid that began in 1986 seemed almost sure to succeed after Canada had held a successful 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and Melbourne, Australia, who hosted the 1956 Summer Olympics and felt that the Olympic Games should return to Australia. The Athens bid was based on sentiment, the fact that these Olympic Games would be the 100th Anniversary of the first Summer Games in Greece in 1896.     Olympic Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Medals & USA Results By Dan Henderson The goal of this paper is to provide the reader with a clear understanding of the history of USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint performance, and where it is trending. From the data it’s clear that the USA Team international performance has been in decline, and there’s not much farther down to go. The American Canoe Association, the National Governing Body for canoe/kayak racing in the United States, is tasked with a turnaround project to stop the decline and improve performance. I believe there’s a set of solutions and that those of us within the sport now can find it: that we can provide the opportunities for American youth to prepare for and successfully compete with the best in the world, that given the opportunity many American youth will step up to the challenge and prepare and compete. Fundamental is that national leadership initiate a discussion involving all stakeholders as to what is to be accomplished, and how to develop performance based structures and programs, to build an attitude of confidence and high expectations to move our nation’s performance forward in a positive direction. It is my hope that this paper will initiate that discussion.
