STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2010 No. 684 LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND The Huntingdonshire (Related Alterations) Order 2010 Made - - - - 8th March 2010 Coming into force in accordance with articles 1(2), 1(3) and 1(4)) Under section 92(2) of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007(a) (“the 2007 Act”) Huntingdonshire District Council made recommendations(b) to the Electoral Commission for the related alteration of the boundaries of district wards within the area of Huntingdonshire District Council. The Electoral Commission has decided to give effect to the recommendations and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 92(3) of the 2007 Act makes the following Order: Citation and commencement 1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Huntingdonshire (Related Alterations) Order 2010. (2) This Order, with the exception of articles 3(2), 3(3) and article 4 comes into force— (a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the elections of councillors for district wards, on the day after that on which it is made; (b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2010. (3) Article 3(2) and article 4 come into force— (a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the elections of councillors for district wards, on 15th October 2010; (b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2011. (4) Article 3(3) comes into force— (a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the elections of councillors for district wards, on 15th October 2011; (b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2012. Interpretation 2. In this Order— (a) 2007 c.28. (b) Paragraphs 4 and 6 of Schedule 1 of S.I. 2008/337 provide that proposals for related alterations following a review under section 9 of the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 (c.29) sent to the Electoral Commission after 13 February 2008 shall be treated as recommendations made under section 92(2) of the 2007 Act. “ordinary day of election of councillors” has the meaning given by section 37 of the Representation of the People Act 1983(a); and “the 2009 Order” means the Huntingdonshire (Parishes) Order 2009(b). Related alterations of district ward boundaries 3.—(1) Each area described in column 1 of Table 1 in the Schedule ceases to be part of the district ward named in column 2 of that Table and becomes part of the district ward named in column 3 of that Table. (2) Each area described in column 1 of Table 2 in the Schedule ceases to be part of the district ward named in column 2 of that Table and becomes part of the district ward named in column 3 of that Table. (3) Each area described in column 1 of Table 3 in the Schedule ceases to be part of the district ward named in column 2 of that Table and becomes part of the district ward named in column 3 of that Table. (4) In this article “district ward” means a ward established by the District of Huntingdonshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2002(c). District elections 4.—(1) The term of office of the district councillor elected on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2008 for each of Little Paxton and St Ives South district wards shall be three years. (2) The election of the councillor for each of those wards shall be held on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2011 and 2016(d). (3) The term of office of the councillor elected on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2011 for each of those wards shall be five years. (a) 1983 c.2, section 37 has been amended by section 18(2) of the Representation of the People Act 1985 (c.50), section 17 of the Greater London Authority Act l999 (c.29) and section 60 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 (c.28). These alterations are related to parish boundary changes made by the Huntingdonshire (Parishes) Order 2009. The new boundaries apply in respect of district elections to be held on and after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Article 3 alters Alconbury and The Stukeleys; Buckden; Earith; Ellington; Fenstanton; Gransden and The Offords; Huntingdon West; Kimbolton and Staughton; Little Paxton; Ramsey; Somersham; St Ives East; St Ives South; St Neots Eaton Ford; St Neots Eynesbury; St Neots Priory Park; The Hemingfords; Upwood and The Raveleys; and Warboys and Bury district wards. Article 4 provides for a district election to be held in each of Little Paxton and St Ives South district wards in 2011 rather than in 2012 and then to continue according to the established system of elections in those district wards in 2016.
