Colossians 2:14 2.14 is one of the scriptures used to teach us that the Law is done away with. “14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; “ The problem is that it is taught God's 10 commandments have been done away and that we don't have to keep them. This is primarily said about the Sabbath which was established in Genesis 2:2-3. “2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”(KJV) Mind you, this is before the law (10 commandments and Moses's law was given). So if God rested on the 7th, should it stand that we should rest as well dedicating that day to The Most High God. This is what he has stated in his word thousands and thousands of years ago. Okay, let's keep moving forward. God gave and spoke his law to the people at Mt. Sinai, Exodus 20 King James Version (KJV) Verses 1-17 and Deuteromony 5: 1-23 20 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lordwill not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. Exodus 31: 18 states that God gave Moses two stone tablets that contained the 10 Commandments. God wrote this with his finger. Previously, God told Moses to get two hewn stones (Exodus 24:12), Exodus 34:1(2nd time) Matthew 5:18 King James Version (KJV) “18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” If this is true, why has the pastors of Christian of Churches teaching us that we do not have to keep God's (7th day) sabbath. It is a sign or token forever for all generations. Verse 16 uses the word "perpetual". Perpetual means long duration, for ever, everlasting, evermore, old, ancient. This helps to contradict what we have been taught all of our lives. Brothers and sisters, please study so that you will know the truth and the truth will make (set at liberty, from dominion of sin) you free. If you get an understanding between God's law and Moses's law, it will make you free. Back to Colossians 2:14, it talks about the "handwriting" of ordinances that was against us (things that the children of Israel was put to death for) was nailed to the cross. If it was the ten commandments (God's law), wouldn't it have said that? It is only said we are not under the law when it comes to keeping the Sabbath. All of the other commandments are the basis for laws and rules in the land or nation. A lot of the laws such as bankruptcy and debt release (7 years) came out of Moses's law.
