LAST GAME — Dec. 9 (Calgary 5 at Colorado 4 in OT) The Avalanche rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to tie the game, but Sean Monahan scored at 2:09 of the overtime period to give the Flames a 5-4 victory at Pepsi Center. Nathan MacKinnon scored early in the third period and then set up Joonas Donskoi's game-tying marker at 10:45. Donskoi also had an assist and Ryan Graves notched the other goal for Colorado.

TONIGHT The Colorado Avalanche continues their three-game homestand tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers at Pepsi Center. The Avs, who opened the home stay with a 5-4 overtime loss to Calgary on Monday, will close out this homestand on Friday against New Jersey.

Colorado had its season-high six-game winning streak snapped in Monday's 5-4 overtime loss to Calgary. The Avs did extend their point streak to seven games (6-0-1), one shy of matching their season-high run of eight straight games with a point (7-0-1) set Oct. 3- 19. The Avs have won a season-best four straight on the road. Colorado is 11-3-1 in its last 15 games, tied with Winnipeg for the best record in the league since Nov. 7.

BEST SINCE NOV. 7 .767 COL (11-3-1) .767 WPG (11-3-1) .750 WSH (11-3-2) .733 DAL (10-3-2) .719 PHI (10-3-3)

40 BEFORE 30 The Avalanche reached the 40-point mark in their 29th game on Saturday, surpassing 40 points in less than 30 games for just the third time since relocating to Denver. The 2000-01 team reached 40 points in their 26th game (19-4-3-0) and the 2013-14 squad reached 40 in their 27th (20-7-0).

20 WIN MARK? The Avs tonight are looking to become the first Western Conference team to reach 20 wins this season (three teams have done so in the East). This would be the third-fastest Avalanche team to reach 20 wins in a season (31 games), trailing only the 2013-14 squad (27th contest) and 2000-01 club (28th).

THAT'S A PLUS Ryan Graves leads the NHL in plus/minus rating at +22. He is the first Colorado defenseman to post a +20 rating or better through the first 30 team games of a season. In fact, over the last 20 seasons (since 1999-00), only four other NHL blueliners have posted a rating this high through 30 team contests: Andrej Meszaros (+24 with Ottawa in 2005-06), Chris Pronger (+23 with St. Louis in 2000-01), Anton Stralman (+23 with Tampa Bay in 2017-18) and Ryan Suter (+22 with Minnesota in 2016-17). Graves has been a "plus" player in seven straight games, going a combined +13 during this stretch. He is the first Avalanche player to post a +1 rating or better in seven straight games since Jan Hejda from Oct. 25–Nov. 10, 2013 (also seven).

NOTEWORTHY - Joonas Donskoi needs one goal to tie his career high (14 in both 2017-18 and 2018-19 with San Jose). - Valeri Nichushkin has five goals in his last eight games. He has goals in back-to-back games for only the second time in his career (also Feb. 5-8, 2014). - Pavel Francouz had his career-best five-game winning streak snapped in Monday's overtime loss to Calgary. He is still unbeaten in regulation in his last eight appearances, going 5-0-1 with a 2.36 GAA and .926 Sv% - Nathan MacKinnon has 21 points (8g/13a) in his last 11 contests. He ranks third in the NHL in points (47) and is tied for fourth in both goals (19) and assists (28). - Andre Burakovsky's 12 goals have matched his total from each of the last three seasons.

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT The Avs are 8-3-2 at home this season. Colorado is 14-3-2 in its last 19 regular-season home games and 18-4-2 in the last 24 at Pepsi Center including playoffs. Nathan MacKinnon has a current four-game home goal streak, his second four-game streak at Pepsi Center this season (Oct. 26–Nov. 7). He has points in all but one of his 13 home contests this season, with his 22 home points (9g/13a) ranking seventh in the league.

HIGH SCORING ATTACK The Avalanche are the highest scoring team in the NHL, averaging 3.70 in goals-per-game. Colorado is second in total goals (111), trailing only Washington (114), and second in goal differential (+27), behind only Boston (+29). Colorado is the only Western Conference team among the top seven in goals scored. The Avs rank first in scoring at home (4.08) and are third on the road (3.41).

AVS & FLYERS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Flyers in 2019-20. This is the first time these two teams will face off since Oct. 22, 2018. Colorado won both matchups last year, sweeping a season series of at least two games against the Flyers for the first time since 1997-98. The Avs outscored Philly 9-3 in the two meetings.

CONNECTIONS Pierre-Edouard Bellemare spent his first two NHL seasons with the Flyers (2014-16) ... Chris Stewart was a first-round pick (18th overall) of the Avalanche in 2006 and played parts of three seasons with Colorado (2008-11) ... Brian Elliott spent the end of the 2010- 11 campaign with the Avs ... Flyers assistant Ian Laperriere spent four seasons with the Avalanche (2005-09).

EAST SIDE STORY Colorado is 8-1-2 against Eastern Conference teams.

IN WITH THE NEW Offseason additions Joonas Donskoi (13 goals), Andre Burakovsky (12) and Nazem Kadri (10) all rank among the Avalanche's top four in goal scoring, combining for 35 (or nearly one-third) of the club's 111 total markers. All three forwards rank among the Avalanche's top-five point producers as well, as they've picked up 70 points (35g/35a) between them in 30 games. Donskoi's 27 points and Burakovsky's 23 trail only Artemi Panarin (37) and J.T. Miller (31) among players who switched teams this summer.

YOU HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL with 144 shots. He led all players with 79 shots in November, which were the most ever by a Colorado player in a calendar month. Nathan recorded a career-high 12 shots on Nov. 1 vs. Dallas, tying the single-game franchise record set by Gabriel Landeskog on Jan. 9, 2019 at Calgary. It is the most shots by an NHL player in a game this year. In fact, he has three of the league's nine double-digit shot performances in 2019-20. MacKinnon, who led the NHL with a franchise-record 366 shots last season, has a shot in 181 consecutive games, the second longest active streak (Dougie Hamilton 278).

WORKING OVERTIME Nathan MacKinnon has two OT winners this season and eight in his career, one behind Milan Hejduk for the most in franchise history. The single-season record is three, a mark already tied by MacKinnon in 2017-18.

SEEING STARS IN NOVEMBER Nathan MacKinnon was named the NHL's Second Star for the month of November. He finished second in the NHL with 25 points (10g/15a) in 14 games despite the team missing two of its top producers from last season for almost the entire month. MacKinnon’s 25 points were a career high for any month and set a franchise record for the month of November. This was the third straight November that MacKinnon has been named one of the league's three stars, as he was the NHL's Second Star in 2018 and the First Star in 2017. He has 68 points (24g/44a) in 40 November games since 2017, the most of any player.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH Cale Makar was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for November. He became the first Avalanche defenseman to ever be named NHL Rookie of the Month, and the first Colorado player since Gabriel Landeskog in February 2012. Makar led all rookies and all NHL defensemen in points (16) and goals (7) in 14 games. His 16 points were the third-most ever by a rookie defenseman in November and the most by a rookie defenseman in any month since Alexei Zhitnik (19) in March of 1993 with the Kings. Makar's seven goals tied the franchise record for any defenseman in a single month and equaled the third-most ever by an NHL rookie blueliner in one month. He scored three game-winning goals in November, the most by a rookie defenseman within a single month in NHL history.

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar is tied for first among NHL rookies with 28 points (8g/20a). Makar's 26 points through his first 26 games were the fourth- most ever by a defenseman behind Harry Cameron (36) from 1917-19 with the Toronto Arenas, Larry Murphy (29) with the Kings in 1980-81 and Hap Day (27) in 1924-25 with the St. Pats. Only two other rookie defensemen in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) scored at least eight goals through the first 25 games of their NHL career: Brad Maxwell (8) in 1977-78 with Minnesota and Barry Beck (11) in 1977-78 with the Rockies.

THE MORE THE MERRIER Four different Colorado goaltenders have earned a win in 2019-20, making this just the second Avalanche team to feature four different goaltenders with a victory in a single season (also 2005-06). No other NHL team has four different winning goaltenders this year.

THIS DAY IN AVS HISTORY Dec. 11, 2002 – Joe Sakic scored his 500th career goal in his hometown of Vancouver against the Canucks. He became the 31st player in league history to reach the milestone, and only the 13th player to score his first 500 goals with one franchise.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

Saturday’s win over Ottawa wrapped up a stretch of 19 games in 36 ½ days for the Flyers dating back to their Nov. 1 win over New Jersey. The Flyers posted a record of 12-3-4 over that 19-game stretch. In that timeframe, which includes games from Nov. 1 – Dec. 7, the Flyers were tied with the Washington Capitals for most points in the NHL with 28. They were two points ahead of both Dallas and Boston, three ahead of St. Louis, and four ahead of Winnipeg, Minnesota and the Islanders. The 12 wins were tied with Dallas for second-most in the stretch, one behind Washington’s 13. The Flyers were one of four teams to play 19 games in that span, joining Arizona (10-6-3, 23 pts), Ottawa (9-10-0, 18 pts) and New Jersey (7-10-2, 16 pts).

The Flyers are 8-1-4 in their last 13 home games dating back to October 21. They are one of three teams tied for second in the league with 16 points at home this year, having posted a record of 6-1-4 in 11 games. (This includes the season opener in Prague, where Philadelphia was the home team.)

The Flyers are enjoying their best record through 30 games since the 2011-12 season, when they had 43 points through 30 games (20- 7-3). This is the 18th time in franchise history the Flyers have had 39 or more points through 30 games; all of the other 17 teams have made the playoffs.

The Flyers have scored first in 18 of their 30 games this season. They are 4—3 on the year when either leading or tied after one period, and are 16-0-3 when leading or tied after the second period.

The Flyers come into the game riding a three-game road winning streak. Their last loss on the road came at Florida back on November 19.

A total of 19 Flyers have appeared in more than one game over the team’s last nine contests. All 19 players have at least two points in those nine games. Claude Giroux (4-4-8), Travis Konecny (3-5-8) and Jake Voracek (2-6-8) lead the team with eight points each; a total of 12 players have at least four points in the nine-game span. Fourteen different players have contributed at least one goal in the run; Giroux, Kevin Hayes and Scott Laughton have four apiece.

Through his last 11 games, Carter Hart is 7-2-2 with a 1.80 GAA and a .931 save percentage.

Ivan Provorov has a point in five of his last six games, picking up two goals and three assists in the span. Kevin Hayes has the same type of stretch going, also with two goals and three assists in his last six.

The Flyers tied a franchise records for points in November with 24. It had been done three times before – 1990 (11-4-2), 1985 (12-2-0), and 1979 (11-0-2). The 1985-86 team posted most of its November record following the death of goaltender Pelle Lindbergh and finished first overall in the NHL in the regular season, while the 1979-80 team made its run as part of the record 35-game unbeaten streak and reached the 1980 Stanley Cup Final.

The month marked just the sixth time the Flyers have picked up 10 or more wins in November and the first time since 2003-04. That was also the last time the Flyers won 10 wins in any month before the turn of the calendar in a given season. It’s the fourth time overall in the last 10 years the Flyers have posted 10 wins in a month, joining February 2018 (10-1-2), March 2012 (11-3-2) and January 2011 (10-2-0).
