February 26, 2020 Hamar, Norway Four ISU World Speed Skating titles up for grabs at historic first in Hamar The famous Hamar Vikingskipet, home of the 1994 Olympic Speed Skating, will host the first combined ISU World Sprint & World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Speed Skating history this weekend. Previously the Allround and Sprint Championships were held separately. Last year Patrick Roest (NED) and Martina Sáblíková (CZE) won the ISU World Allround Speed Skating titles in Calgary, while Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) and Nao Kodaira (JPN) took the ISU World Sprint Speed Skating titles in Heerenveen. All four champions will be present in Hamar to defend their titles. The Sprint Championships are on Friday and Saturday and the Allround tournaments on Saturday and Sunday. Sprint Men: Who can beat Kulizhnikov? After winning both the 500m and the 1000m title at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, another win is what you would expect from the defending champion Pavel Kulizhnikov (RUS) in Hamar. Kulizhnikov already won the ISU World Sprint Speed Skating Championships title in 2015, 2016 and 2019. In the years in between, Kai Verbij (NED) and Håvard Lorentzen (NOR) took the honors, but both the Dutchman and the Norwegian haven't shown too much this season yet. Kjeld Nuis (NED), who took silver in 2018, could be one of Kulizhnikov's challengers, but the Dutchman is much slower in the 500m and in the 1000m at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City two weeks ago, he conceded more than a second when the Russian skated his world record of 1:05.69. -
Interview Kees Verkerk

OL – Et Kulturelt Utstillingsvindu En Visuell Analyse Av De Visuelle Dekorative Profilene I to Olympiske Leker

World Speed Skating Championships Hamar Day 2, Press Release
February 29, 2020 Hamar, Norway Takagi and Shinhama win historic Sprint titles "I think she's the greatest skater at this very moment, but she's a bit more modest herself" said Japan coach Johan de Wit (NED) about Miho Takagi (JPN). The 25-year-old from Obihiro won three distances at the ISU World Sprint Championships in Hamar, to take the title and thus hold both the World Sprint and the World Allround title on her list of honors. Last year's champion Nao Kodaira (JPN) took silver and Olga Fatkulina (RUS) bronze. Meanwhile, Ireen Wüst (NED) took the lead in the ladies' Allround tournament, which started on Saturday. In the men's Sprint tournament, Tatsuya Shinhama (JPN) followed Takagi's footsteps winning the title on Saturday. The 23-year-old sprinter was the first male skater from Japan to become World Sprint Champion since Akira Kuroiwa in 1987. Laurent Dubreuil (CAN) came second to take the first male Canadian World Sprint medal since Jeremy Wotherspoon in 2008 and Cha Min Kyu (KOR) seized bronze. Defending champion Patrick Roest (NED) took a first-day lead over home favorite Sverre Lunde Pedersen and Japan's Seitaro Ichinohe (JPN) the men's Allround tournament. Sprint: Takagi solidifies lead in 500m Defending World Sprint champion Nao Kodaira (JPN) bounced back from coming second in the first 500m on Friday, winning the shortest distance on Saturday. With 37.46 seconds in the final pairing versus Miho Takagi (JPN), the Olympic 500m champion was 0.07 faster than she had been the day before. -

Seventh Allround Title for Wüst, Third for Roest
March 1, 2020 Hamar, Norway Seventh Allround title for Wüst, third for Roest Ireen Wüst (NED) won her seventh World Allround title at the Combined ISU World Sprint/Allround Championships in Hamar, Norway on Sunday. The 33-year-old is now only one Allround title short of record-holder Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann (GER). Ivanie Blondin (CAN) came second seizing her career-first Allround medal and Antoinette de Jong (NED) edged out five-time champion Martina Sáblíková (CZE) for the bronze. In the men's tournament Patrick Roest (NED) won his third consecutive World Allround title. The 24-year-old Dutchman bounced back from a poor outing at the World Single Distance Championships two weeks ago in Salt Lake City, winning three of four distances on his way to the Allround title at the Vikingskipet. Riding the waves of an enthusiastic home crowd Sverre Lunde Pedersen edged out Seitaro Ichinohe (JPN) for the silver medal. Ladies' 1500m: Wüst builds small cushion Entering the 1500m, Ireen Wüst (NED) had a 0.220 points gap over Ivanie Blondin (CAN), which equaled 0.66 seconds in the 1500m and 2.20 seconds in the 5000. The Dutch World 1500m Champion wanted to use the 1500m to increase her lead over the Canadian endurance specialist, but Blondin, skating against the leader in the final pairing, kept track of Wüst for most of their race, only to concede little over a second in the final lap. With 1:53.89, Wüst beat her own 2008 track record by 0.76 seconds, but she gained just 1.32 seconds on Blondin, who would enter the 5000m in second place, 6.60 seconds behind. -

Prediction of Personalized Speed Skating Results Using Case-Based Reasoning

CBR is an intelligent experience-based solution solving system explained as similar problems have similar solutions, and easily adapted to various fields. In this work, we use case-based reasoning for predicting best possible finish-times for speed skaters given various external conditions. With inspiration from related research in recommendation systems for other sports, we studied a system handling the factors affecting speed skating and retrieving the most sim- ilar races for further prediction. The CBR system was modeled with the open-source software myCBR Workbench and SDK. This software retrieves cases with a restful API provided by the SDK based on the local-global similarity principle also defined in myCBR Workbench. Looking at the results, we conclude that a CBR system like this is suitable for our problem statement. Speed skating offers multiple non-numeric features that can make a signifi- cant difference in the results.
