With just over 3 weeks to Christmas, I thought that it would a good opportunity for a bit of Christmas

These answers have come from the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth, which has been recorded for us in 88 FM the beginning of Matthew’s and Luke’s gospel. Why don’t you have a read of the true Christmas story for yourself to find out more about the good news of Jesus’ birth. Or if you would prefer, I would love to sit down and read it with you over coffee. May God bless you. Mat Morrison

The Festive Season and Your Mental Health
The Festive Season isn't a happy time for everyone, and can often be stressful, lonely or overwhelming.
Here are some tips for looking after your mental health over the Christmas period.
Stay Connected Staying connected is particularly important this year, with many of our loved ones out of reach. Pick up the phone, video chat, or send a nice Christmas card to 1 keep you in contact with your nearest and dearest.
Lend a Helping Hand Caring for others can make you feel good! Volunteer for a local charity, have a chat with your neighbour, give an elderly family member a phone call and check on 2 your mates!
Give Yourself a Break Lower your 'perfect Christmas' expectations and don't ask too much of yourself! Set boundaries and say no to things you don't enjoy, or to tasks that will overload you. 3 Take Time out for You
Christmas can be stressful!! The holidays can be hectic, overwhelming and a little too much! Remember to take time out for yourself. Have a sleep in, take a day 4 off, watch a good movie, or practice some mindfulness.
Ask for Help It's really important to ask for help if you're feeling overwhelmed, sad, or just not yourself. Chat to friends, family, your GP, or try a helpline like Lifeline: 13 11 14, 5 Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636, or the Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800.

1 December 2020
Welcome to my final column for 2020. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Take care and stay safe on the roads during the holiday season.
This has been a year we certainly won’t forget, thanks to COVID-19. As regional West Australians we’ve been incredibly fortunate to now. I wish to thank all those individuals and groups who have supported their communities through this difficult time. Congratulations to Nikki Woods from Gingin, a Resilient Australia WA award winner. Nikki’s COVID- lockdown photography project brought fun and a sense of community during the lockdown.
Many a time we hear people say that they can’t wait for 2020 to be over, but unfortunately, when we turn the calendar to January 2021, the risk of COVID-19 will remain. As we’ve seen most recently with the South Australian cluster, the risk is real and now that our interstate borders are opening, it is more important than ever to remain vigilant. Please practice physical distancing (keep two arm lengths from each other), practice good hygiene (wash hands often and cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing), stay home if unwell and get tested for COVID-19 if experiencing flu like symptoms.
The level of preparedness for COVID-19 in regional WA is a matter I’ve worked hard to highlight in Parliament. The Labor government need to assure all West Australians - particularly those in regional WA - that aged care, health and emergency services are appropriately resourced and prepared to respond to a COVID-19 outbreak. Areas of particular concern include ongoing doctor shortages, workforce shortages in the aged care sector, a spike in Royal Flying Doctor transfer rates, ambulance ramping at Perth hospitals at record highs, pressure on emergency departments due to an increase in mental health presentations and questions in relation to the roll-out of upgraded contact tracing technology.
As the busy parliamentary sitting calendar draws to a close I’ve been out and about in Moore. It’s been great to catch up with the community groups who were recipients of my Shane Love’s Moore Community Grants and discuss their plans for the future including arts groups in Ballidu, Mullewa, Carnamah and Cervantes. The arts play such an important role in communities. I want your input to ensure the regional arts sector grows and thrives. Please complete the survey on my Facebook page and website.
In closing, I send best wishes to local farmers and fishers who have had to grapple with more than a few challenges this year, given the short growing season and export market conditions. Likewise, small businesses who had to wrangle travel restrictions and labour shortages. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2021!
