Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Annual Report 2012 July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012 Highlights Community-based Outpatient Services for Adolescents and Families 417 clients were served through: Substance Abuse Evaluation, Individual, Group, Family and Home-based Family Therapy, the Intensive Outpatient Program, the Homeless Youth Project, and School-based Services. Additionally, 35 parents participated in a parent support group. Residential Services Residential Treatment Center - 34 clients were served during this fiscal year. This program pro- vides a long-term intensive therapeutic community for up to 16 male youth (ages 16-20) at a time. Pictured Above: James C. Harrod Residential Treatment Center Transitional House for Recovery - 6 apartments are available to house 7 Aftercare clients, which include graduates of the Residential Treatment Center and other programs. It served 9 clients this year. An additional 18 clients participated in the Aftercare program. Prevention Services Natural Helpers of Maine - is a peer-listening program that gives students a place to turn in times of stress, trouble or substance abuse. 138 students and 11 adult facilitators from 8 schools across the state were trained. This program is available to approximately 6,500 high school students in the state of Maine. Juvenile Justice Services Long Creek Youth Development Center - Day One staff provide comprehensive substance abuse assessments on every youth committed to the Center. Day One clinicians provide a continuum of treatment interventions including individual, group and family counseling. They are an integral part of the clients’ unit treatment teams and also engage in case management to assist the clients in com- munity reintegration. 61 youth were screened & assessed for substance abuse, and 107 youth were treated for their substance abuse issues through this program. In total, 121 youth were served. Mountain View Youth Development Center - Provides similar services as the Long Creek pro- gram. 45 youth were assessed and 84 youth were treated for substance abuse issues. In total, 87 youth were served. Evidence-based Programming Day One is now a licensed provider of The Seven Challenges® which is a holistic program for working with adolescents on their substance use problems, co-occurring issues, and for remediating life skills deficits. This program is individualized with careful attention to meeting youth where they are and providing successful counseling interventions. This helps young people look at them- selves, understand what it takes to give up a drug abusing lifestyle, and prepare for success when they commit to change. The program is enhancing all of Day One’s treatment programs.
