St Teath School

So, we have nearly made it to the end of term, and what a strange term it has been! I am thrilled that we have managed to get most of you back in to school for at least some time. For me, it has been a pleasure to meet you all and find out more about you and the school. There have been some big changes already and we have appointed two new teachers. They have intro- duced themselves below. I know that they will be a great addition to the team. I hope that you will get to meet them in school very soon. I just wanted to put this newsletter together to go through some of the arrangements for the end of this year and the beginning of next. If you have any further queries, please do let me know.

New Classroom. With increasing numbers in school and the need to split Year 5 and 6 next year, we have found ourselves in need of classroom space. This is to avoid using the hall as a classroom and limiting other activities in school. We had a meeting last week with some of our fabulous parents with a view to a potential solution. The have come up with a solution involving a temporary building that we will be able to install on the school site ready for September. We do need to fundraise quickly in order to be able to facilitate this purchase. We owe a huge thanks already to McIlroy Builders, North Coast Tile Company, Jamie Hewitt and Timmy Martin for their support with this. If you know of anyone else who may be willing to help either physically or financially, please let us know. It is an exciting time for the school as it grows from strength to strength.

Next Years Dates:

Next year, the school will have INSET on the following dates: 3rd September 2020, 4th September 2020, 4th January 2021, 19th April 2021, 11th June 2021.

So the school year will begin for students on Monday the 7th of September.

Arrangements for opening next year under Covid-19 guidance. The government has issued guidance to schools on operation as from September this year. We are currently reviewing this and completing our risk assessments accordingly. So far, I am able to tell you this. We plan to open the school for all pupils. Each class will become a bubble, designated their own areas and washroom facilities. (Year5/6 will be one bubble) We plan to operate a breakfast club and some after school clubs. Large gatherings in school will not happen until restrictions are lifted. We hope to bring back peripatetic music tuition. School uniform will be expected. We are informed by the government guidance that no additional cleaning of uniform should be necessary. Attendance at school will become compulsory again from September. We plan to reopen the school canteen for hot meals from the beginning of September. We will update you with more details as and when we are able.

Online Learning Please note, we will not be setting on learning tasks on Google Classroom past the end of this week. Please log off and enjoy your summer holiday. However, it would be a good idea to continue using the Doodle App regularly in order to keep up the progress that we have already made on here. We will also be moving classes up on Class Dojo next week. Thank you

All you need is love! This week has seen the filming of the spectacular musical extravaganza, ‘All you need is Love!’ a musical based on the music of the Beatles and the Alice in Wonderland stories of Lewis Carroll, penned by our own Mr Howard. Rehearsals have been going well and the final sequences are being shot this week. It would have been won- derful to see it as a live performance but, under the current restrictions on gatherings, sadly this is not pos- sible. But, the show must go on and the whole show will be available for parents to watch next week. Mr Howard will be circulating a code on Class Dojo. We are all very much excited for the school premier on the last day of term. Teathletics! This week has seen a great deal of sporting activity and competition amongst our pupils. From tennis, to football to athletics and running, our pupils have been active and enthusiastic. Results have been coming in thick and fast and final winners will be announced next week, but I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Proctor for organising the events and ensuring that the St Teath sporting legacy lives on throughout the lockdown.
