St Teath CP School North Road, St Teath Bodmin Cornwall PL30 3JX Tel 01208 850516 Web www.stteathschool.co.uk 22nd June 2020, Dear Parents and Guardians, As you may be aware, government guidance has now been relaxed to allow headteachers more flexibility in bringing more pupils on to site, ‘where they have the capacity to do so safely and within the current guidelines.’ We are extremely keen to get as many of our pupils back in to school as possible. The school has been closed to some pupils for over 12 weeks now and, although you are all doing a wonderful job with home learning, we know that there is nothing like getting back in to school and working face to face with you teacher and classmates. In order to achieve this, and to make things as fair as possible, we are looking at reducing provision slightly for those currently in school and making those teaching slots available to other pupils. We believe we can do this safely in the following way. Firstly, key worker children will move into the Reception classroom. Miss Vollum will then oversee their work, alongside her usual reception class children. That will free up Mrs Gregson to bring back Year 4. This is a large year group and we will split them in to groups A and B, who will be invited in on different days. This will allow us to keep to the government guidance of 15 per class. Provision in school would then look like this: Miss Vollum – Rec/ KW Mrs Lane – Year 1 Mrs Gregson – Year 4 Mr Howard – Year 6 Secondly, we will reduce this provision to 4 days a week. We will close the school on a Monday to the pupils listed above, except for the key workers. On a Monday, we can then invite back the other pupils. This will allow all of our children to have some contact with their class teacher before then end of term. On Mondays, provision would look like this: Miss Vollum – KW Mrs Lane – Year 2 or 3 (depending on week) Mrs Gregson – Year 3 or 2 Mr Howard – Year 5 On Monday nights, the school would be thoroughly deep cleaned, ready for the rest of the week. In addition to this, Year 6 pupils will be invited to attend SJS for a transition day during the week beginning the 6th of July. They have been asked to work remotely for the rest of the week to reduce the risk of cross contamination from mixing with other pupils. During that week, Mr Howard will invite Year 5 in to school. Under these arrangements, between now and the end of term, we will provide some provision for all of our pupils. We are looking at bringing these arrangements in to place from the week beginning the 29th of June. We also are aware that some of you will have concerns. I would like to assure you that we are following government guidance as closely as we can in order to ensure that pupils are safe within the school environment. Class bubbles are limited to 15. Pupils hand wash frequently throughout the day. Pupils are sent to the toilet individually. A social distance of 2m is kept, as far as is possible, within the classroom. Class bubbles do not mix in school at any time. Each class has separate play areas and toilet areas to ensure that there can be no cross contamination of bubbles in school. Pupils are dropped off and collected via separated entry channels. We hope that parents who have already returned their children to school will confirm for you that we are putting maximum effort into ensuring everyone’s safety. I realise this is a long letter, if you have any queries at all, please do get in touch. We very much look forward to seeing more of you back in school very soon.
