Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2 in Willow Class!

I am so excited to teach at St. Teath Primary school and I can’t wait to get to know you all!

Sandra will be in Willow class every morning and 3 afternoons, Bob is in on Wednesday afternoon and Lou is in on Friday afternoon. Jack will be teaching P.E. on Tuesday afternoons. Aren’t we lucky to have all these wonderful people in with us!

Curriculum

This term we are focusing on London and where we live in the world. We will be taking a walk around St. Teath and looking closely at our local environment. After half-term we will be learning about the Great Fire of London. Hopefully, we will visit Bodmin Fire Station.

Please take a look at our parent overview to see what else we will be covering this term. A copy of this can be found on our class page.

Home Learning

Reading: In Year One, children are expected to read with an adult for around 10 minutes each day. In Year Two, children are expected to read for around 15 minutes each day. A reading bookmark will be sent home with your child alongside their reading book and record. Every time your child reads at home they will receive a star. Once 10 stars are collected they will receive a certificate and a prize!

Spellings: Children in both year groups will be given spellings. Please practise these as often as you can. Spellings will be given on Monday and will be reviewed the following Monday.

English and Maths: In Year 1, children are expected to complete 20 minutes of English and Maths per week. In Year 2, children are expected to complete 30 minutes of English and Maths per week.

Topic: Each term we would like each child to create a piece of work which relates to our term topic. This term our topic is London, including The Great Fire of London. This is a chance for your child to show off their creativity. They can present their wok in any way they wish. This could be: posters, maps, models, PowerPoint presentations, booklets, pictures, videos etc… All pieces of work will be shared with the class. Projects can be handed in from after half-term.

General Reminders

A P.E kit, clearly labelled with your child’s name, needs to be kept in school throughout each half-term. Your child’s P.E kit should consist of: black or navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a plain white t-shirt, plimsolls and trainers. Long hair needs to be tied back.

Please could all items of clothing (P.E. kit, coats, bags) be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Water bottles: Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school every day, clearly labelled with their name. Water is the preferred drink.

Snacks: For break time, we will provide your child with a piece of fruit.

Pencil cases: If children can being in their own pencil case, this would be great. If not, we have resources available for your child to access.

Clubs: Normally, we provide a wide range of after-school activities that your child has access to, however in the present circumstances, these have had to be put on pause. We would love to know if your child is a part of any clubs or groups outside of school as we would love to share their experiences/achievements with the rest of the class. Your child can also bring in pictures/awards to share, and if they wish, we can display them on our ‘Class Achievements’ board.

If at any time you have any questions or queries, then please speak to me and I will be more than happy to help you. I look forward to working with you this year!

Thank you for your support!
