Bluesmen Garrett Mason and Keith Hallett in Late August and Alex Cuba Is Coming Back in November Hi Everyone! Summer is here and we've finalized our July/August shows. There are two newly booked shows; bluesmen Garrett Mason and Keith Hallett in late August and Alex Cuba is coming back in November. The coming week and a half will see 4 performances with great high energy live shows coming. The 6th and 11th bring some blues our way (from N'Orleans and Kansas), Searson Band from the Valley will release their latest CD Fade and Shine and The Bright Light Social Hour will light it up on the 10th. The next Soundcheck is July 25th. Soundcheck is our version of an open mic hosted by Mike McCormick. There is no cover charge and it will be a monthly event. HVAC plans are still being worked on and the permit for the new fire exit path is underway. We're also going to upgrade our tables (they'll look close to the same and be alot sturdier ;-) Friday July 6th; Jumpin' Johnny Sansone - New Orleans ($20) On the ever-reliable advice of Steve Marriner, we booked Jumpin Johnny Sansone on the first Friday of Bluesfest...in case you're a blues fan who's not planning on making the trip into Ottawa for Blues this year! Johnny plays guitar, harmonica & accordion. His songwriting is often awarded and acclaimed and his voice seems made to sing the Blues. 'The Lord is Waiting and the Devil is Too' was voted song of the year at the 2012 Blues Music Awards. July 7th; SEARSON Fade and Shine CD Release - The Valley ($20) nearly sold out Energetic and upbeat, Searson has been a refreshing and exciting change at every festival, theater and live concert performance. Searson is Erin, Heather and Colleen Searson, three multi-talented sisters that play a variety of instruments and are all expert step dancers. Piano, organ, fid- dle, tenor guitar and bass are all highlighted in their live performances. Acclaimed drummers and percussionists round out the live show. In 2011, SEARSON toured throughout Canada, the U.S., Ireland, Germany, Denmark and headlined one of the largest music festivals in Europe at Festival Ortiguiera, Spain. July 10th; The Bright Light Social Hour - Austin ($17) nearly sold out Right out of a 70s rock movie. TBLSH was here April 1st and put on an absolutely stunning show. It was a little hard to believe. The show is full on the entire time. the band is super tight and extremely good. Not to be missed if you're a rock fan. They now return after a turn at the Bluesfest opening for Alice Cooper/Iron Maiden! July 11th; Moreland & Arbuckle - Kansas ($20) Another booking based on the ever-reliable advice of Steve Marriner. Moreland and Arbuckle is a Blues show that has the same sort of power and drive as MonkeyJunk. Since their beginnings in the Kansas heartland a decade ago, guitarist Aaron Moreland and vocalist/harpist Dustin Arbuckle have captured the visceral spirit of the early 20th century Delta blues and the raw energy of post-World War II urban blues and distilled it all into a hard-driving and powerful garage-rock configuration of guitar, vocals, harp and drums. July 26th; The Be Good Tanyas - Vancouver ($41) with Lucy Wainwright Roche nearly sold out This trio – Sam (Samantha) Parton, Frazey Ford, and Trish Klein – got their name from a song by music pioneer Obo Martin ("Be Good Tanya"). They have three albums to their credit now and have had a song or two in movies. We're looking forward to this show; it's pretty cool to have a this trio on our stage. Lucy Wainwright Roche has been added as an opener! August 1st; Dave Gunning - Nova Scotia ($20) Dave Gunning broke upon the East Coast music scene in Canada back in 1997. The Pictou County, Nova Scotia born and bred singer-songwriter and working class hero has built up from humble beginnings to a point where his name is regularly included in conversation with artists such as David Francey, James Keelaghan, Ron Hynes, Stan Rogers, Bruce Cockburn and Gordon Lightfoot. His latest award-winning recording project, “… a tribute to John Allan Cameron” was recently honored with a prestigious 2012 Juno Award nomination for Roots & Traditional Solo Album of the Year August 3rd; The Unsettlers - Montreal ($17) This will be the 3rd visit for The Unsettlers. This music and show reside somewhere in the middle of a New Orleans funeral dirge, a Tim Burton character, a creepy carnival movie, anything Tom Waits and a Wild West Saloon. It's a treat for the dramatics, the music and the colour. They are a great group of people and they put on a whale of a show. August 9th; The Pacific Curls - New Zealand ($16) Another 3rd time visit. With their World-ribbed sounds, precise arrangements and a catalogue of songs Pacific Curls – make music that is both worldly and enthralling. Over the years the three members have accumulated an impressive instrumental collection featuring the ukulele, cajon, fiddle, Taonga Puoro - traditional Maori instruments, guitar, stomp box, kalimba, various percussive instruments and vocals with lyrics in Te Reo Maori, Rotuman and English. The Pacific Curls Show is a force to behold.
