Needles will be speaking but the really great thing, he says, is that his wife Heath is laying out a dessert table. “Even if they don’t like the book, they will love the desserts,” he said. “This is home turf for these stories, this is where they came from so I like talking to my home audience,” said Needles. He said he has chosen to include about 80 columns written over the past 20 years. “I picked out the ones I liked and they tell a story of a family making its way in the countryside over a period of great change,” said Needles, “the party line gives way to the internet and small farms turn to agribusiness.” Events continue throughout the weekend with Terry O’Reilly, also Staff photo: Trina Berlo at Duntroon Hall on the Sunday, Steve Lucas (from right) is directing actors Heidi Lynch and Alex Crowther in One Good Marriage Sept. 30 at and country singer Dan Davidson Dunedin Hall during Small Halls Festival. headlining at Brentwood Hall on Saturday night. country song in Canada for several Trio on Friday and NQ Arbuckle and He is set to release a ten-year Former member of rock band Tupelo weeks last summer and was the eighth Carolyn Mark on Saturday. anniversary vinyl edition of Goodbye Honey, Davidson is fairly new to the highest charting Canadian song in the Fisher, a three-time Juno award Blue Monday, produced by Avening country music scene. Have you spent time recently with someone who doesn’t use a smartphone? – Yes, those people exist and they are a joy to be around. Smartphones offer valuable technology and make many aspects of life easier, especially when it comes to scheduling and reminding someone to pick up milk while they are grocery shopping because you forgot to include it in the first six texts. The devices are super handy for interacting with people who are not nearby but there is some evidence they may be hindering interactions with the people in the same room, at that moment, what we used to refer to as real life relationships. It is not uncommon to walk into a restaurant and see two people sitting at a table, each one looking at their phones. And not uncommon to try to point it out to your lunch date only to find they are hunched over their phone too. There is a name for it. Phubbing: the act of being snubbed by someone using a smartphone. (The word was made up by an ad agency to promote a dictionary, along with an anti-phubbing campaign and had little to do with social graces, but it stuck.)
