    Jazz to host NBL’s Sydney Kings in Preseason Opener Utah to host Australian team in first game inside the newly renovated Vivint Smart Home Arena on Oct. 2 SALT LAKE CITY (July 31, 2017) – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) announced today the Utah Jazz will host the Sydney Kings on Oct. 2 at Vivint Smart Home Arena, marking the first time that NBL teams will travel to the U.S. to play against NBA Teams. “The Jazz are the most internationally diverse team in the NBA, including two players from Australia,” said Utah Jazz President Steve Starks. “Our franchise is excited to host an NBL team from Sydney in the first game played at our newly remodeled Vivint Smart Home Arena.” Joe Ingles and Danté Exum are the two current Aussies on the Jazz, after a record-tying eight Australian players appeared on 2016-17 opening night NBA rosters. Ingles began his professional career with the South Dragons of the NBL (2006-09) at the age of 18, earning 2006-07 NBL Rookie of the Year and winning an NBL championship in 2008-09. “This is massive for Australian basketball and an exciting opportunity for NBA and NBL players to compete together on the same floor,” said Ingles. “As an Aussie who began my career in the NBL and now entering my fourth season with Utah, I am very proud of the growth of the game in my home country and can’t wait for the Jazz and Salt Lake City to play host to Sydney this fall.” A native of Happy Valley, South Australia, Ingles re-signed with the Jazz to a multi-year contract on July 25.

In line with Basketball Queensland’s relationship with True Sport Lives Here please note this inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. The True Sport Lives Here initiative is all about encouraging positive behaviour in junior sporting environments. Children, parents, spectators, officials, coaches and volunteers can all make a positive difference, so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of sport in their community.     Brian Goorjian Australian basketball's most successful coach Brian Goorjian is the most successful coach of Australian basketball with a total of 6 NBL championship wins and a 70% winning record over 700+ games. In 2009, his first season as coach of the South Dragons, he steered the team from the bottom of the ladder to a remarkable Grand Final triumph. Brian also coached the Australian Men’s National Team, the Boomers, during two Olympic Games and one World Championship. Brian was the coach of the Australian National Basketball men’s team at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The team, the Boomers, won the Bronze medal and it was Australia’s first Olympic medal in men’s basketball. In 2020, he returned to Australia and signed with Illawarra Hawks of the NBL as their new head coach. Brian was an Assistant Coach of the Chinese National Men’s Team when they competed in the Asian Championships winning a silver medal. Since 2010, Brian has been the Head Coach of the Donnguan Leopards, a Div1 Club located in South China, close to Hong Kong. The Club has reached the finals each season and in recognition of his contribution, offered him a 3-year contract, making him the longest serving foreign Head Coach in China. Brian is a very entertaining and passionate speaker who brings his significant coaching expertise and experience to the corporate arena, delivering clear lessons about motivation, leadership and teamwork. He is also able to provide a rare insight and unique perspective to companies on how to overcome the challenges of doing business in China.

Ramsay1 Abstract In 2012 and 2013, four Australian national sporting organizations (“NSO’s”)—the Australian Football League, the Australian Rugby League Commission Limited, BA Limited (Basketball Australia) and Football Fed- eration Australia Limited—were also the national league competition orga- nizer (“NLCO”) for their sport. All four NSO’s are not-for-profit companies. We apply the model of optimal voting rules proposed by James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock to the actual voting rules adopted by the NSO’s. This model focuses on the minimization of costs associated with voting. We find that the NSO voting rules largely conform to the model although there are exceptions.
