Saint Felix School Mr James Harrison BA (Hons) Dear Parent/Guardian On Monday, Mr Harrison notified all the staff and parents that Miss Jade Wong has been appointed as Head of Prep Department from September 2018. I would like to offer my personal congratulations to her on this appointment. We will be working closely over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition and handover. Year 5 have enjoyed their Bikeability training this week and by all accounts have coped well with the demands of the course; their behaviour has been exemplary too. Your children may have told you about the new regime in and around the changing room areas in Clough House. My tougher stance with regards to children putting their bags away in their lockers at all times has resulted in much less lost kit; I only wish I had enforced it a few years ago! Last week our Under 11 tennis teams had their first matches at Framlingham College Prep. The girls team of Evie Booker, Lucia Franco-Key, Ava Lines and Rose Webster won two games and lost four against the hosts and the boys team of Jason Coles, Ben Currie, Daniel Franco-Key and Ryan Kennedy won all their games against Orwell Park and the hosts. We also hosted the North Suffolk Schools Games Under 9 short tennis tournament last Friday and had an excellent return; our A team won the tournament and our B team finished in third place. A registered charity no, 310482 At the weekend William and Isabelle Last represented Saint Felix at the East Regional Skiing Association School’s race in Norwich. William finished 5th in the Under 10 category and Isabelle 4th in the Under 12 category; two fine achievements from a field of over 150 competitors. Also last weekend, Ava Lines attended Day One of the 2018 Suffolk County Swimming Camps. She was selected after a successful County Championships in February. The day included two pool sessions and land-based workshops. This is a great achievement as only 16 girls and 16 boys in Suffolk were selected. On Saturday a small swimming squad raced at the Beccles Kingfishers Development Meet, Emily Phelps and Matilda Williams returned with numerous Personal Best times and Matilda also won a silver and bronze medal. Daniel Franco-Key was absent from school on Thursday as he attended a Regional Tennis camp in Hertfordshire. Only eight players have been selected this time in the East Region; my congratulations to him for his selection. Congratulations to Freya Attwell (Silver) and Eva Bullion (Double Platinum) who received certificates in Chapel this morning. Transition Day will be on 15th May. Year 6 will attend lessons in the Senior Department for the day and Years 3-5 will move up a year and attend timetabled lessons for the morning. We will also be joined by members of Year 2 from the Pre-Prep. Please note, the Transition Dinner for Year 6 and 7 children and their parents will NOT be held on this day but will instead be on Tuesday 12th June. It has come to our attention that many of our older students are playing the online game ‘Fortnite’ when at home. There has been much coverage in the press this week regarding this game and the dangers involved with online chat and messaging associated with it. Research by the NSPCC has suggested that 25% of children have been contacted by strangers whilst on the game. Children have also spoken openly about playing the game late at night and we have heard children talk about being desperate to get home to play it. The warnings from the NSPCC also suggest the game is highly addictive and provides an opportunity for children to purchase upgrades to the game. May I please ask parents to remain vigilant about their child’s online use. Open Morning is on Saturday 12th May. All pupils are expected to be in school from 9.45am until 12.30pm. Any applications for absence should be made to the Headmaster via his PA, Mrs Tansley on [email protected] Southwold, Suffolk IP18 6SD Telephone: 01502 722175 e-mail: [email protected] www.stfelix.co.uk A limited company registered at the above address no. 316883.
