We prove ho- motopy invariance of cohomology, the Poincar´elemma and exactness of the Mayer{Vietoris sequence. We then compute the cohomology of some simple examples. A fiber bundle E over a topological space B with fiber a given topological space F is a space along with a continuous surjection π such that for each x 2 E there exists a neighborhood π(x) 2 U ⊂ B and a homeomorphism φ such that the following diagram commutes, φ π−1(U) / U × F π i Ô U where i is the usual map, i(p; v) = p. The dual and the exterior product not only define new objects in a category to associated objects. (We would say elements and set except the collection of all vectors spaces or all vector bundles is not properly a set since it's too big). Both the dual and the exterior product are functors because they also send arrows to arrows. (Again, we would say functions except we may want to look at certain kinds of functions like strictly linear functions or may want to use objects which aren't sets). The original one is due to Souriau and the other one is the singular de Rham complex defined by a simplicial differential graded algebra. We compare the first de Rham cohomology groups of the two complexes within the Cech–deˇ Rham spectral sequence by making use of the factor map which connects the two de Rham complexes. As a consequence, it follows that the singular de Rham cohomology algebra of the irrational torus Tθ is isomorphic to the tensor product of the original de Rham cohomology and the exterior algebra generated by a non- trivial flow bundle over Tθ. 1. Introduction The de Rham complex introduced by Souriau [13] is very beneficial in the study of diffeology; see [6, Chapters 6,7,8 and 9]. In fact, the de Rham calculus is applicable to not only diffeological path spaces but also more general mapping spaces. It is worth mentioning that the de Rham complex is a variant of the codomain of Chen’s iterated integral map [3]. While the complex is isomorphic to the usual de Rham complex if the input diffeological space is a manifold, the de Rham theorem does not hold in general. In [11], we introduced another cochain algebra called the singular de Rham com- plex via the context of simplicial sets. It is regarded as a variant of the cubic de Rham complex introduced by Iwase and Izumida in [9] and a diffeological counter- part of the singular de Rham complex in [1, 15, 16].

    Lecture 15. de Rham cohomology In this lecture we will show how differential forms can be used to define topo- logical invariants of manifolds. This is closely related to other constructions in algebraic topology such as simplicial homology and cohomology, singular homology and cohomology, and Cechˇ cohomology. 15.1 Cocycles and coboundaries Let us first note some applications of Stokes’ theorem: Let ω be a k-form on a differentiable manifold M.For any oriented k-dimensional compact sub- manifold Σ of M, this gives us a real number by integration: " ω : Σ → ω.     Exterior derivative On a differentiable manifold, the exterior derivative extends the concept of the differential of a function to differential forms of higher degree. e exterior derivative was first described in its current form by Élie Cartan in 1899; it allows for a natural, metric-independent generalization of Stokes' theorem, Gauss's theorem, and Green's theorem from vector calculus.     Notes on Differential Forms Lorenzo Sadun Department of Mathematics, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX 78712 arXiv:1604.07862v1 [math.AT] 26 Apr 2016 CHAPTER 1 Forms on Rn This is a series of lecture notes, with embedded problems, aimed at students studying differential topology. Many revered texts, such as Spivak’s Calculus on Manifolds and Guillemin and Pollack’s Differential Topology introduce forms by first working through properties of alternating ten- sors. Unfortunately, many students get bogged down with the whole notion of tensors and never get to the punch lines: Stokes’ Theorem, de Rham cohomology, Poincare duality, and the realization of various topological invariants (e.g. the degree of a map) via forms, none of which actually require tensors to make sense! In these notes, we’ll follow a different approach, following the philosophy of Amy’s Ice Cream: Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first. We’re first going to define forms on Rn via unmotivated formulas, develop some profi- ciency with calculation, show that forms behave nicely under changes of coordinates, and prove Stokes’ Theorem. This approach has the disadvantage that it doesn’t develop deep intuition, but the strong advantage that the key properties of forms emerge quickly and cleanly. Only then, in Chapter 3, will we go back and show that tensors with certain (anti)symmetry properties have the exact same properties as the formal objects that we studied in Chapters 1 and 2. This allows us to re-interpret all of our old results from a more modern perspective, and move onwards to using forms to do topology.

Abstract.— We rewrite classical topological definitions using the category- theoretic notation of arrows and are thereby led to their concise reformulations in terms of simplicial categories and orthogonality of morphisms, which we hope might be of use in the formalisation of topology and in developing the tame topology of Grothendieck. Namely, we observe that topological and uniform spaces are simplicial objects in the same category, a category of filters, and that a number of elementary properties can be obtained by repeatedly passing to the left or right orthogonal (in the sense of Quillen model categories) starting from a simple class of morphisms, often a single typical (counter)example appearing implicitly in the definition. Examples include the notions of: compact, discrete, connected, and totally disconnected spaces, dense image, induced topology, and separation axioms, and, outside of topology, finite groups being nilpotent, solvable, torsion-free, p-groups, and prime-to-p groups; injective and projective modules; injective and surjective (homo)morphisms.     WHAT IS COHOMOLOGY? ARUN DEBRAY MARCH 2, 2016 ABSTRACT. Cohomology is a very powerful topological tool, but its level of abstraction can scare away interested students. In this talk, we’ll approach it as a generalization of concrete statements from vector calculus, which allows a definition of cohomology which is just as precise, but easier to grasp. This talk should be understandable to students who have taken linear algebra and vector calculus classes. 1. THE THREE STOOGES:DIV,GRAD, AND CURL You might remember the following theorems from vector calc.
