  • Creating “Star Trek CATAN – Federation Space”
Creating “Star Trek CATAN – Federation Space” After Star Trek Catan was so well received, and as many of you asked us to take this joint venture of the two franchises Catan and Star Trek even further towards the “Final Frontier,” we thought long and hard about what kind of game expansion you would enjoy. As we knew that a lot of players liked our Catan Geographies™ maps so much, which take the whole Settlers of Catan experience towards a real map to put settlements in, we thought: Let us take Star Trek Catan into a “real” region of space to put our little NCC-1701 spaceships in. The crucial question was: Is there a region of space sufficiently “real” inside the Star Trek – The Original Series time period? After a bit of research, we discovered this wonderful map titled “The Explored Galaxy” over at the Memory Alpha wiki. As it turned out, this was “as real as it could get,” as it had been first shown hanging on a wall in none other than Captain James T. Kirk’s quarters in the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country motion picture (and subsequently in various episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation). Every true Star Trek fan knows that this particular map depicts a lot of the known and beloved locations shown in The Original Series of the 60s, and some of those from The Animated Series of the 70s. We took great effort to investigate and cross-reference all these depicted celestial bodies with their respective episodes. © CATAN GmbH - Page 1 We then added a couple of planets that were not actually shown on this map but that we would really want to have in our game, and tried to pinpoint their locations according to mostly in-canon and sometimes semi-canon sources.

Stock#: 33466mba Map Maker: Williams Date: 1876 Place: New York Color: Hand Colored Condition: Size: 36 x 23 inches Price: SOLD Description: Verso illustration for the following map: {{ inventory_detail_link('33466mb') }} The following is the description for the map referenced above: Rare first edition of this striking large format map of the Western, published by Henry T. Williams, with a handwritten note relating to the notorious stagecoach robber, Black Bart, who operated in Northern California and Southern Oregon from 1875 to 1883. Williams map of the west follows the transcontinental railroad west from Omaha to San Francisco, and along with a number of other early railroad lines in the west. The train stations along each route are showns and named, along with several proposed routes. The map is one of the best examples of the colorful and inviting maps used to promote tourist travel to the west. The present example of the map has been highly annotated, apparently by an early owner who travelled extensively along the West Coast and in California, including a contemporary brush with news of the notorious stage coach robber, Black Bart. The distances by Steamer along the Pacific are noted in blue pencil, showing distances between San Diego, San Pedro, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Humboldt Bay.

  • Missilesmissilesdr Carlo Kopp in the Asia-Pacific
MISSILESMISSILESDr Carlo Kopp in the Asia-Pacific oday, offensive missiles are the primary armament of fighter aircraft, with missile types spanning a wide range of specialised niches in range, speed, guidance technique and intended target. With the Pacific Rim and Indian Ocean regions today the fastest growing area globally in buys of evolved third generation combat aircraft, it is inevitable that this will be reflected in the largest and most diverse inventory of weapons in service. At present the established inventories of weapons are in transition, with a wide variety of Tlegacy types in service, largely acquired during the latter Cold War era, and new technology 4th generation missiles are being widely acquired to supplement or replace existing weapons. The two largest players remain the United States and Russia, although indigenous Israeli, French, German, British and Chinese weapons are well established in specific niches. Air to air missiles, while demanding technologically, are nevertheless affordable to develop and fund from a single national defence budget, and they result in greater diversity than seen previously in larger weapons, or combat aircraft designs. Air-to-air missile types are recognised in three distinct categories: highly agile Within Visual Range (WVR) missiles; less agile but longer ranging Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles; and very long range BVR missiles. While the divisions between the latter two categories are less distinct compared against WVR missiles, the longer ranging weapons are often quite unique and usually much larger, to accommodate the required propellant mass. In technological terms, several important developments have been observed over the last decade.
