Lamp, Editor The editorial committee of Spiritus had long planned on this issue’s theme, Spirit- empowered leadership, and there was unanimity that the right person to serve as guest editor was John Thompson. John’s long experience and training in the field of leadership positioned him to vet submissions, identify peer reviewers, and maintain a high standard of quality. I worked closely with him in the process, and I can attest he gave his all to see this issue come to fruition. In the process of forming this issue, we received the sad news of the passing of a giant in the worldwide Spirit-empowered Movement, Vinson Synan. He was a longtime friend of Oral Roberts University, serving recently as interim dean of the College of Theology and Ministry and as the director of the newly launched PhD program at ORU. As

    117 Perspectives on Koinonia The Report from the Third Quinquennium of the Dialogue between the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity of the Roman Catholic Church and some Classical Pentecostal Churches and Leaders 1989 Introduction 1. This is a report of conversations held on the international level between the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unityl and some classical Pentecostal churches and leaders. It contains the results of the third phase of dialogue held 1985-1989. 2. Contacts for the dialogue were initiated in 1969 and 1970. Among the topics discussed during the first quinquennium (1972-1976) were Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Christian Initiation and the Char- isms, Scripture and Tradition, and The Human Person and the Gifts. In' the second quinquennium (1977-1982) consideration was given to Faith and Religious Experience, Speaking in Tongues, and Mary. The co-chairpersons during this third quinquennium, 1985-1989, were the Rev. Kilian McDonnell, OSB, Collegeville, Minnesota, USA and the Rev. Justus T. du Plessis of the Apos- tolic Faith Mission of South Africa. The conversations dealt with the subject of the Church as Koinonia. 3. The Rev. David J. du Plessis chaired the Pentecostal delegation during the first two phases of the dialogue. Indeed, the origin of the international Pentecostal/Roman Catholic dialogue, almost twenty years ago, owes much to initiatives he took during and after the Second Vatican Council. David du Plessis continued to take part in the third phase of the dialogue, providing important insights to our deliberations, until his death in 1987. The dialogue commission acknowledges, with gratitude to God, David du Plessis' important contribution to the origin and continuation of our work.

    BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT Ephesians 5:15-21 Would it be safe to say that most of us prefer full to empty? Take a gas tank for example. It can get a little hairy when you’re running on fumes in the middle of nowhere, praying for an open gas station. Just ask a friend of mine who was following the hearse in a funeral procession when the hearse ran out of gas. It feels a lot better when the tank is full. Or how about your stomach? While most of us know little of true hunger pangs, we all know what an empty stomach feels like—how it gurgles and grumbles and growls—especially during the quiet times of prayer and worship. A full—not stuffed, but full—stomach feels a lot better. And how about a house? After 20 years of having children in the house, an empty house doesn’t feel as warm and cheery as a full house does. You remember the hit television series called Full House? No one ever made a television series called Empty House. Full is better. Emptiness tends to lead to sadness … like Mother Hubbard who cried when her cupboards were bare. Full is almost always better. Why then do so many Christians live an empty Christian life? We don't have to. As we continue our series, Earth, Wind, and Fire—The Elements of Revival, I invite you to open your Bible to Ephesians 5:15-21. In this passage the Apostle Paul writes about a certain filling of our lives that can make all the difference in the world.

[email protected] Introduction: Catholic Revival within the Swedish Religious Landscape The Swedish religious landscape is full of contradictions . On the one hand, Sweden is described as one of the most secularized countries in the world . And, according to some measures, it is – religious participation is at an all-time low and only about 19 % of the population see themselves as reli- gious,1 religious schools are frowned upon,2 religion itself is rarely discussed and is established as a category of otherness, often treated as odd and out- dated,3 and, at least in principle, public expressions of religiosity remain objectionable . On the other hand, Sweden, similarly to neighbouring Denmark and Norway, falls under the so-called “Scandinavian paradox” 4.     Palmed-Off Sunday Andrew Newsham Extent: 3386 Once a year, the leading representatives of planet Earth's various religions were invited to attend a short personal interview with the Supreme Being. Some called him God, others Allah, Yahweh or even Zeus, but to all of them he was the Boss. It was a time when he laid down the law and allowed each delegate a glimpse of the cosmic master plan in which they were involved. There was only one God, but lots of different brand names and sales territories. Nothing was sold as such but the earth was shaped by their ministrations. Humanity had to be educated somehow. Jesus, the leading representative of Christianity and all Bible-based subdivisions, sat in the waiting room before his meeting with the Supreme Being and was ill at ease. He had been to 2003 such meetings and was utterly depressed by the whole scene. This year it was taking place in Binnion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. Last year it had been in a series of dark caves in the Hindu Kush. The year before he couldn't remember. The whole set up was the same: a waiting room, a door to the Supreme Being, the other reps mingling about nearby cracking jokes and making small talk. Jesus had no time to talk shop with the others, as one of the big three religions he didn't feel he had much in common with the others anyway. He believed ardently in his own unique path. Sure, the others had similar troubles as he did with stupid followers and such but he thought that was because most of their gospels were obtuse and ridiculous.
