MERTHYR TYDFIL COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL Civic Centre, Castle Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8AN Main Tel: 01685 725000 www.merthyr.gov.uk CABINET REPORT Date Written 16 th May 2011 Report Author Carolyn Tobin / Gavin Lewis Service Area Corporate Property & Physical Regeneration Committee Division Portfolio Committee Date 6th July 2011 To: Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen Taff Bargoed Valley Logo PURPOSE OF THE REPORT: To seek Cabinet approval for use of the Taff Bargoed Valley logo for signage, promotion and branding of the Taff Bargoed Regeneration Programme and other MTCBC projects in the Valley. 1.0 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND 1.1 In 2006 the Taff Bargoed Regeneration Partnership developed a logo to represent the regeneration aspirations of the communities in the valley. This logo was agreed and adopted by the partnership in 2007. 1.2 The Taff Bargoed Valley is defined as the settlements of Quakers Yard, Edwardsville, Treharris, Trelewis and Bedlinog and includes Parc Taf Bargoed. 2.0 LOGO 2.1 The original design was created with input from MTCBC officers, representatives of community groups and local residents. To date the logo has been used on documents and leaflets by the Regeneration Partnership Original design developed in 2007 2.2 There is now an aspiration to use the logo across a range of regeneration projects in the valley settlements and in Parc Taf Bargoed to create a sense of identity and arrival for the valley linked to the Taf Bargoed Regeneration Project and projects to develop Parc Taf Bargoed into a regional destination and country park 2.3 However the current logo is not suitable for this wider use for example on finials and other signage. Therefore a new design has been developed and at the Taff Bargoed Regeneration Partnership meeting on 3 rd May 2011 it was agreed to amend the design as shown below for its use on projects across the valley. The new design is bilingual and shown below: 2.4 The new logo will further enforce the branding that has been developed for the Taff Bargoed Valley over the last five years and will help promote the valley as a destination valley for tourism and outdoor activities. It will create a unified and coordinated approach to promotion of the valley in the same way that the Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre logo brands the town centre and the new Cyfarthfa Park logo brands the castle and park together as a visitor destination. 2.5 The new logo will be used initially for the Parc Taf Bargoed Signage & Interpretation project which is funded through Valley’s Regional Park. 2.6 The MTCBC Corporate logo is used in conjunction with the Taff Bargoed logo on promotional materials and interpretation panels along with relevant funder logos. 3.0 FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS 3.1 The development of the logo was funded through the Corporate Property and Physical Regeneration Department budget. There are no further financial implications for MTCBC. 4.1 RECOMMENDATION that 4.2 The use of the Taff Bargoed Valley logo for signage, promotion and branding of the Taff Bargoed Regeneration Programme and other MTBC projects in the Valley be approved.
