Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. By MARY J. RATHBUN, Assistant Curator, Division of Marine Invertebrates, U. S. National Museum. INTKODUCTION. Among the collections obtained by Dr. Robert E. Coker during his investigations of the fishery resources of Peru during 1906-1908 were a large number of Crustacea, representing 80 species. It was the original intention to publish the reports on the Crustacea under one cover, but as it has not been feasible to complete them at the same time, the accounts of the barnacles a and isopods b have been issued first. There remain the decapods, which comprise the bulk of the collection, the stomatopods, and two species of amphipods. One of these, inhabiting the sea-coast, has been determined by Mr. Alfred O. Walker; the other, from Lake Titicaca, by Miss Ada L. Weckel. See papers immediately following. Throughout this paper, the notes printed in smaller type were con tributed by Doctor Coker. One set of specimens has been returned to the Peruvian Government; the other has been given to the United States National Museum. Economic value.—The west coast of South America supports an unusual number of species of large crabs, which form an important article of food. -

A great number of new higher taxa have been established and the majority of higher taxa have had their systematic status and position changed. During “Huinay Fiordos”-expeditions between 2005 and 2014 benthic Decapoda (Crustacea: Malacostraca) were collected down to 40 m depth using minimal inva- sive sampling methods. The 889 specimens were attributed to 54 species. The in- fraorder Brachyura was the most speciose with 27 species, followed by Anomura with 18 species, Caridea with 8 species and Dendrobranchiata with one species. Taxonomic examination was complemented by in-situ photo documentation and close-up pictures with extended depth of field taken from sampled individuals showing the species-specific features. Faunistic data was evaluated with location maps and sample localities are discussed according to existing literature, often resulting in the extension of known distribution ranges of various species. -

However, no data about acoustic emissions from non-malacostracan crustaceans are cur- rently available, so their ability to produce sounds is unknown. For the first time, this study inves- tigated the sound produced by 2 tadpole shrimp species, Triops cancriformis and Lepidurus lubbocki. L. lubbocki individuals were collected from a natural temporary pond in Sicily (Italy), whereas T. cancriformis individuals were obtained from eggs contained in sediment from a rock pool in Sardinia (Italy). In the laboratory, experimental tanks with the animals (one species at a time) were acoustically monitored. Both species produced high-frequency, wideband pulses dis- tinguishable by their sound pressure level, which was higher in L. lubbocki (146 dB) than in T. cancriformis (130 dB), and by their first and second peak frequencies, which were higher in L. lub- bocki (65 and 86 kHz) than in T. cancriformis (63 and 71 kHz). The energy distributions in the power density spectra showed different shapes, as revealed by the 3 dB bandwidth and centre fre- quency. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Lobithelphusa Rodriguez, 1982 is endemic to southern Mexico. Assigned to this monotypic genus is the freshwater pseudothelphusid crab, L. mexicana Rodriguez, 1982. The original description based on an old, dry, male specimen in the collections of the Natural History Museum, London, is brief and the crab was only partially figured. Lobithelphusa mex- icana has subsequently never been recorded from Mexico and, consequently, the conservation status of this species is un- known. The type specimen has a complete, but detached left chela; is devoid of the left ambulatory pereiopods 1–3, with the fourth missing the carpus, propodus and dactylus; and its left first gonopod detached but retained in a glass tube kept adjacent to the crab. -

E-mail: [email protected] SUMMARY: The distribution of decapod crustaceans in the southernmost areas of South America and the Antarctic is assessed considering the Magellan Biogeographic Province instead of the antiboreal region. Possible associations between decapod crustaceans from the Magellan Biogeographic Province and those from the Antarctic region are analysed. Species records were assigned to seven geographic regions that were clustered using multivariate analyses based on species pres- ence/absence and Bray-Curtis similarity. The results showed two well-established clusters, one of which included the Pacif- ic and Atlantic areas of the Magellan Province, the southern tip of South America and the Kerguelen Arc islands, with the highest similarity between the southern tip and the Atlantic area. Another cluster was well separated and included the Antarctic and South Georgia with the highest similarity index. Earlier studies and results obtained here suggest that the fau- nas of southern Chile and southern Argentina are biogeographically related. -
