RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders snapped their skid with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Broncos in Swift Current on Friday night. After the Broncos opened the scoring in the second period, 20-year-old winger Collin Valcourt evened the slate, followed by a go-ahead marker by 18-year-old winger Dakota Conroy. The Raiders held on until the final minute when Swift Current managed to tie the game. After a scoreless extra frame, 18-year-old center Leon Draisaitl scored in the shootout and 16-year-old goaltender Nick McBride turned down all the shooters, we wall as 37 of 39 shots faced in regulation, to pick up the win.

VS THE BRONCOS: This will be the first and only meeting of the season between the Cougars and Raiders. Last year, the Raiders picked up a 3-2 victory in Prince George. Josh Morrissey scored first for the Raiders and sparked a come- back from a 2-0 deficit to take the win in regulation.

SKID SNAPPERS: 19-year-old winger Dakota Conroy ended an 11-game goalless and pointless drought on Friday night while 16-year-old goaltender Nick McBride picked up his first win his last 4 starts, dating back to November 23rd.

A NEW LEADER: 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner has taken over the team lead in goals, with 20 in 46 games played this season, one ahead of 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl, who has 19 in just 40 games played.

RAIDERS RANKED: 18-year-old centre Leon Draisaitl has been ranked 2nd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting Service’s recent Midterm rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft, making him the highest ranked player in the WHL. 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner holds down the 40th spot on the list, the 11th highest player in the WHL.

POWER OUTAGE: The Raiders have only managed three goals with the man advantage over the last 9 games, con- verting on 10% of their opportunities. Despite the recent struggles, their powerplay remains 6th in the league with a 22.6% rating.

KEEPING IT CLEAN: The Raiders are the least penalized team in the WHL, with just 570 through 48 games this sea- son.

MILESTONES: 19-year-old defenceman Sawyer Lange played in his 175th game on Friday. 18-year-old defenceman Josh Morrissey one shy of his previous season high of 15 and 19-year-old winger Dakota Conroy reached his 50 in his career on Friday. 17-year-old forward Reid Gardiner has reached the 100 game plateau.

UPCOMING GAMES: The Raiders depart for Lethbridge and Kootenay later this week, starting Wednesday against the Hurricanes followed by a date with the Ice on Friday. They will begin February with three consecutive home games against the Broncos, Moose Jaw Warriors and Medicine Hat Tigers followed by a trip to Calgary and Edmonton. Prince George Cougars Game Note

THE TRIP SO FAR: The Prince George Cougars kicked off their six-game Saskatchewan/Manitoba road trip last Friday night in Regina with an 8-0 loss loss. One night later the Cougars responded with a much better effort, but still fell short 6-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Todd Fiddler (28) paced the Cougars with a goal and two assists while Jansen Harkins (6) and Klarc Wilson (20) each had a goal and an assist. Ty Edmonds turned aside 25 of the 30 shots he faced in goal. The Cougars finished zero-for-three on the power play while Brandon converted on three of their seven chances.

COUGARS-RAIDERS: Tonight in Prince Albert the Prince George Cougars continue their six-game Eastern road swing with their one and only meeting of the season against the Prince Albert Raiders. Last season the Cougars were 0-1 against Prince Albert having dropped a 3-2 decision in Prince George back on January 23, 2013.

Tri-City has 22 games remaining in their season while the Cougars have 21. Tonight the Tri-City Americans are idle.

FIDDLER’S RED HOT MONTH CONTINUES: Fresh off a week where he was named the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week, Todd Fid- dler continues to provide consistent and timely offense for the Prince George Cougars. In 31 games this season with the Cougars, Fiddler has managed 26 goals and 26 assists. He has 24 points (12G, 12A) through 11 January games and currently sits seventh in WHL scoring. Fid- dler has tallied at least one point in nine of his past 11 games altogether.

LEADING THE PACK: Todd Fiddler leads the Prince George Cougars with 28 goals, 62 points, 13 power play goals and 14 road goals. Cougars Troy Bourke leads the team with 36 assists, 16 multi-point games, and three shorthanded goals. Marc McNulty (11G, 16A) leads all Cougars defencemen with 27 points. Zach Pochiro leads the Cougars with 87 minutes. Wil Tomchuk leads the team plus -minus with a +7 rating. Jansen Harkins (6G, 11A) leads all rookies in scoring with 17 points.

The Cougars have two 20-year olds, five 19-year olds, 11 18-year olds, four 17-year olds, and three 16-year olds. The roster includes: 13 players selected by Prince George in the WHL Bantam Draft, eight players via trade, two from the free agent list, and two via the CHL Import Draft. The roster breakdown by region looks like this: Six are from B.C., nine are from Alberta, five are from Saskatchewan, and one each from Manitoba, the Yukon Territory, and the United States. Two are from Slovakia.

EDMONDS, RUOPP RANKED BY CENTRAL SCOUTING: Last week it was announced that Prince George Cougar goaltender Ty Ed- monds (Winnipeg, MB) and defenceman Sam Ruopp (Zehner, SK) had both cracked the NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term rankings list. Edmonds (13-15-1-4, 3.84 GAA, .887 save percentage, two shutouts) was ranked as the eighth North American draft-eligible goaltender while Ruopp (2G, 3A, 40 PIMS) was ranked 135th out of all draft-eligible North American skaters.

UP NEXT: Following tonight’s matchup in Prince Albert the Prince George Cougars will continue their eastern road trip on Wednesday night in Saskatoon.. The trip also includes stops in Moose Jaw (Jan. 31) and Swift Current (Feb. 1). Prince George Cougars Prince Albert Raiders
