VIVIEN MITCHELL Since retiring as an industrial consultant and financial adviser, I have devoted much of my time to ‘making a better place in which to live, work and play’. This is the ethos of Monmouth Partnership Forum of which I have been a member since 2002. My main interest is the environment and I was a founder member of Transition Monmouth. This group’s activities are varied but currently my main project is flood prevention. Flooding affects everyone in Monmouth, but residents of Dixton/Osbaston and in particular, and has become noticeably worse in the last 20 years. We need a plan to stop this! I believe that social justice, inclusivity and community engagement are key to a town’s success and I work with school children and older students, as well as numerous community groups. Also essential are our local producers and retailers. We must support our local businesses otherwise the town will die – young people will move away and our town centre will lose the wonderful independent shops. I was a member of for two years and gained significant experience of working with Monmouthshire County Council. I now want to put this experience to good use by becoming a County Councillor for the ward of Dixton with Osbaston.
