Liberal Education | Fall 2012 | An Education for the Twenty-Fir... http://www.aacu.org/liberaleducation/le-fa12/bennett_cornwell_... Fall 2012, Vol. 98, No. 4 An Education for the Twenty-First LINKS Century: Stewardship of the Global About Liberal Education Commons By Douglas C. Bennett, Grant H. Cornwell, Haifa Current Issue Jamal Al-Lail, and Celeste Schenck Previous Issues LEAP Featured Articles In this brief proposal, we are trying to envision a foundational higher education for the twenty-first century, an education that has some claim to adequacy for the PKAL Series on STEM possibilities of human beings today on this earth. We are writing this to provide Learning and Success more depth to the idea of “global education,” a term that has become commonplace but that, too often, is put forward without adequate substance. We Ordering Information call this “An Education for the Twenty-First Century: Stewardship of the Global Commons.” We take on this task as members of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance, a consortium of twenty-five colleges and universities cooperating to advance the Permissions and Offprints theory and practice of undergraduate education designed to prepare graduates for citizenship and leadership in the highly globalized twenty-first century. Manuscript Submission Guidelines We believe it is important to imagine an education fit for global possibilities because ours has become a world in which connections and consequences reach Author Index across borders and leap oceans. For much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it may have been appropriate to frame education in national terms, but Subject Index no more. The challenges of the twenty-first century—the possibilities of prosperity, of peace, of health, of fulfillment—all unfold on a global stage. -
Annual Report 2017 ACG 150 | Advancing the Legacy, Growing Greece a Plan to Leverage Education & Re-Invigorate the Economy Board Chair’S Message
Annual Report 2017 ACG 150 | Advancing the Legacy, Growing Greece A plan to leverage education & re-invigorate the economy Board Chair’s Message The excitement and energy at The American College of Greece continues to be evident in the many accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students. Our graduates also continue to make contributions throughout Greece and the world. It is clear that the education they have received at the College is serving them well. As the new Chair of the Board, I’m delighted to enter my ninth year of service to the College as a trustee. I continue to be impressed by the talent and commitment of the faculty and staff. Dr. Horner has certainly assembled a truly talented team of academic leaders. We will miss the wise counsel of our immediate past chair, Phil Korologos, and remain grateful for the decades of service from the Korologos family. In honor of this service, Phil was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law at the Deree Commencement in June. This past spring, we also recognized the service of Nikos Ebeoglou, who completed his term with the ACG Board and played a vital role in the transition of Alba. In addition, we welcomed to the Board Drake Behrakis, who will begin his first three-year term and brings great enthusiasm to advancing Hellenism in America. Finally, we expressed both gratitude and sadness at the departure of our colleague, Olga Julius, who served Pierce for over 40 years, including the last 14 years as its Principal. Perhaps there is no better example of the school motto, “Non Ministari, Sed Ministrare.” Many thanks to our alumni and friends who also continue give generously to the College. -

THE ANDREW W. MELLON FOUNDATION 140 EAST 62ND STREET NEW YORK, NY 10021 (212) 838-8400 July 26, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Patricia L. Irvin (212) 500-2525 [email protected] Michele S. Warman (212)500-2530 [email protected] Don Randel Elected New President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation New York, NY- Don Michael Randel has been chosen by the Board of Trustees to serve as the President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, effective July 1, 2006. Randel has served as President of the University of Chicago since 2000. The election of Randel is the result of an extensive search carried out by the Trustees over the last year. Randel will succeed William G. Bowen, who has served as President since 1988. Bowen will serve a final year before continuing his research and writing, as well as providing support to Ithaka Harbors, Inc., a non-profit organization chaired by Bowen whose mission is to accelerate the productive uses of information technologies for the benefit of higher education around the world. “The Mellon Foundation is unique among the major foundations in its commitment to the humanities and the arts and in bringing new technologies to their support,” Randel said. “These are matters to which I have devoted all of my professional life, and it is therefore extraordinarily exciting to be offered the opportunity to aid in continuing the Foundation’s great tradition. I look forward to furthering the Foundation’s collaborations with grantee institutions to strengthen them within all of the Foundation’s areas of focus both in this country and abroad.” Anne M.
