ASC-Organisator und Schriftführer Squash Club 80 Salzburg – Aqeel Rehman 3 VORWORT On behalf of the Professional Squash Association, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all fans, players, coaches, referees, volunteers and sponsors to Salzburg for what promises to be an exciting week of top-class action at the Austrian Open 2020. The 2019/20 season was undoubtedly one of the most challenging seasons in the sport’s history following the outbreak of COVID-19 midway through and the resulting global pandemic that has plunged many lives into uncertainty. We have all taken heart from the way the squash community has come together during the darkest days of the pandemic. The reaction from the squash community across social media in particular - from the range of lockdown challenges to the way people turned their homes into squash courts - was incredible and it showed us just how important sport can be in keeping spirits up during these difficult times. This is why I am especially happy to be welcoming back the Austrian Open in 2020 in the beautiful city of Salzburg. The tournament has become a fa- vourite stop on the tour for many players and it is exciting that another crop of rising PSA stars will get to experience playing such a fantastic event this year. Aqeel and his team do such a professional job running the event, it has truly become a stan- dard that we aspire all our tournaments to reach. We are appreciative that the event is still able to go ahead this year at the Tenniscourt Süd club and we look forward to it returning to the EUROPARK shopping centre on the all-glass court next year. I would like to wish the compe- titors the very best of luck and hope that all fans in attendance enjoy the spectacular squash on offer. Stay safe and enjoy the squash! Viel Spass! 5 KIDS & SCHOOL DAYS WELCHE FLU¨U¨U¨GEL DU¨RFEN’S SEIN? 3.- 4. WORLD SQUASH UPDATE Issue 83 November / December 2019 FOR ALL WSF REGIONAL & NATIONAL FEDERATIONS cc: WSF Regional Presidents, WSF Commission Members, Stakeholders, PSA members, SPINs, Media, Accredited Products and Companies CAPE TOWN HOSTS SUCCESSFUL AGM The World Squash Federation Annual General Meeting took place on 6 November in Cape Town, South Africa, hosted by Squash South Africa. The WSF Conference, which preceded the AGM, facilitated informal discussions and featured presentations to update the delegates on key initiatives - including the World Squash Officiating, a joint enterprise between the WSF and Professional Squash Association (PSA) to develop an online platform that will provide National Federations with the tools to develop refereeing in their country. The new initiative is scheduled to go live before the end of the year. Additionally James Sandwith, from BEBRAND, presented the findings of a strategic review commissioned by WSF, with the report now available for all member nations to appraise. The 49th Annual General Meeting, attended by representatives of 24 National Federations, saw delegates agree an amendment to the Articles of Association to reduce the risk of inappropriate leadership behavior and to ensure that delegates in attendance at an AGM have a formal connection with their National Federations. There were no changes to the standard Rules of Squash. However, the Rules of Squash 57 were updated, adding an extra ball rebound resilience at 33 degrees C that will help to ensure that the differential between blue and black balls - and their range of bounce - will be more uniform across the brands that are WSF-approved. The WSF Championship Regulations were updated with respect to player eligibility, the use of random draws and a new timeline and procedure for seeding juniors.
