LUNEDì 17 MARZO 2014 Paloma Faith, pubblica in Italia il 18 marzo 2014 un nuovo disco, dal titolo "A Perfect Contradiction", che occupa il secondo posto nella classifica degli album più venduti in UK. Paloma Faith Ad accompagnarla in questo viaggio, un team di artisti, autori e Da domani il nuovo disco: "A Perfect produttori leggendari: Pharrell Williams, Diane Warren, John Legend e Contradiction" Raphael Saadiq, solo per citarne alcuni. Con Pharrell e Diane Warren c'è stata una sorta di "corteggiamento". Pharrell ha cantato davanti a lei, a New York al Met Ball, "New York", una delle prime canzoni di Paloma, poi le ha preso il cellulare, ha digitato il proprio numero e le ha detto: "Sono LA REDAZIONE pronto a mettermi al lavoro" e da qui è nata "Can't Rely On You", il primo singolo tratto da qust'album. Diane Warren (Cher, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston), vincitrice di tre Grammy, ha più volte chiamato Paloma per chiederle di ascoltare un pezzo che aveva scritto appositamente per lei. Paloma continuava a ripetere che non avrebbe cantato brani di cui non fosse autrice, ma quando ha sentito "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" suonata al pianoforte, se ne è innamorata. Cantava continuamente "Ordinary People" di John Legend e fin dagli anni '90 ama Raphael Saadiq. Inoltre tra i compagni d'avventura ci sono alcuni amici connazionali: Plan B, londinese come lei e Dave Okumu, produttore di Jessie Ware e frontman degli Invisible. "A Perfect Contradiction" segna una nuova direzione musicale per Paloma Faith: "Il tono dell'album è l'esatto contrario di quello del disco precedente" spiega la Faith. "C'è sicuramente qualche momento malinconico, ma l'atmosfera generale è molto più scanzonata, della serie 'quando tutto va per il verso storto, allora... al diavolo, mettiamoci a ballare'". Paloma Faith ha scritto molte canzoni dell'album lo scorso anno, quando viveva a New York, mentre la registrazione è stata poi ultimata tra N.Y., Los Angeles e Londra. Oltre alle sonorità rétro amate da sempre in questo disco Paloma evoca anche Eryka Badu e Jill Scott, Fugees e N.E.R.D. Uno dei punti di riferimento dell'album è stato "Young Hearts Run Free", classico di Candi Staton, in cui la tristezza del testo si unisce a un'interpretazione che al contrario dà la carica. ? Mancuso © 2018 Steven Robert Bellavia All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Andrew Schocket, Advisor This dissertation examines the experiences of the final Cold War generation. I define this cohort as a subset of Generation X born between 1965 and 1971. The primary focus of this dissertation is to study the ways this cohort interacted with the three messages found embedded within the Cold War us vs. them binary. These messages included an emphasis on American exceptionalism, a manufactured and heightened fear of World War III, as well as the othering of the Soviet Union and its people. I begin the dissertation in the 1970s, - during the period of détente- where I examine the cohort’s experiences in elementary school. There they learned who was important within the American mythos and the rituals associated with being an American. This is followed by an examination of 1976’s bicentennial celebration, which focuses on not only the planning for the celebration but also specific events designed to fulfill the two prime directives of the celebration. As the 1980s came around not only did the Cold War change but also the cohort entered high school. Within this stage of this cohorts education, where I focus on the textbooks used by the cohort and the ways these textbooks reinforced notions of patriotism and being an American citizen.

Debris and previously announced writer and performer Jammz will be joined by Cassie Clare and Kirubel Belay. Directed by Ola Ince, Poet in da Corner will also feature music and composition from Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, co-founder and co-artistic director of Boy Blue. The production runs Friday 21 September 2018 – Saturday 6 October 2018 with press in from 7.30pm Tuesday 25 September 2018. In a strict Mormon household somewhere in the seam between East London and Essex, a girl is given Dizzee Rascal’s ground-breaking grime album Boy in da Corner by her best friend SS Vyper. Precisely 57 minutes and 21 seconds later, her life begins to change – from feeling muted by dyslexia to spitting the power of her words; from being conflicted about her sexuality to finding the freedom to explore; from feeling alone to being given the greatest gift by her closest friend. A coming of age story inspired by Dizzee Rascal’s seminal album, Boy in da Corner.

Publicity photo: the housewife diva, 3 July 1965 (Alamy) i Abstract The Australian soprano Marie Collier (1927-1971) is generally remembered for two things: for her performance of the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, especially when she replaced the controversial singer Maria Callas at late notice in 1965; and her tragic death in a fall from a window at the age of forty-four. The focus on Tosca, and the mythology that has grown around the manner of her death, have obscured Collier’s considerable achievements. She sang traditional repertoire with great success in the major opera houses of Europe, North and South America and Australia, and became celebrated for her pioneering performances of twentieth-century works now regularly performed alongside the traditional canon. Collier’s experiences reveal much about post-World War II Australian identity and cultural values, about the ways in which the making of opera changed throughout the world in the 1950s and 1960s, and how women negotiated their changing status and prospects through that period. She exercised her profession in an era when the opera industry became globalised, creating and controlling an image of herself as the ‘housewife-diva’, maintaining her identity as an Australian artist on the international scene, and developing a successful career at the highest level of her artform while creating a fulfilling home life. This study considers the circumstances and mythology of Marie Collier’s death, but more importantly shows her as a woman of the mid-twentieth century navigating the professional and personal spheres to achieve her vision of a life that included art, work and family.
