Heart Of England Classic Grand Prix Formula One Championship. Competing Car Regulations (The “Johnson Formula") Formula Ethos: • To revisit a golden age of motorsport to celebrate : • The diversity of car design of Grand Prix Cars of 1970 -80 • Legendary racing drivers. • To keep the formula: • Low “tech” but allowing some limited forms of modification. • Cheap to compete in. • Fun to race. • Equal, Honourable and equitable for young/old & inexperienced and experienced alike. • Relatively low powered and somewhere near the actual scale speed of the 1:1 Grand Prix cars of 1970 – 1980’s. • A framework for the scale modeller to show their skills by allowing scratch built cars and freedom to dress the cars in any livery. 1, Eligibility: 1.1. Based upon 1:1 vehicles which were eligible for - or competed in - Formula One races between 1970 & 1980 only. 1.2. 1/32 scale model slot cars only. 1.3. Open wheeled Grand Prix/Formula 1 slot cars of any manufacture. 1.4. Competing cars must comply with the regulations set out below. 2, Motor type 2.1. Unmodified/standard Johnson Motors 111 only. 2.2. Resistors may be removed. 2.3. Motors may be stripped down, cleaned and have replacement contacts fitted as part of a competitors motor maintenance regimen. 2.4. Any other form of performance enhancement is not permitted. 2.5. Motor performance will be assessed at the race scruteneering by means of a simple wheel speed check, which the competing driver will be able to witness in an open environment of mutual trust with the scruteneer. -

Race Car Aerodynamics Gregor Seljak April 8, 2008 1 Introduction First racing cars were primarily designed to achieve high top speeds and the main goal was to minimize the air drag. But at high speeds, cars developed lift forces, which affected their stability. In order to improve their stability and handling, engineers mounted inverted wings profiles1 generating negative lift. First such cars were Opel’s rocket powered RAK1 and RAK2 in 1928. However, in Formula, wings were not used for another 30 years. Racing in this era 1930’s to 1960’s occured on tracks where the maximum speed could be attained over significant distance, so development aimed on reducing drag and potencial of downforce had not been discovered until the late 1960’s. But since then, Formula 1 has led the way in innovative methods of generating downforce within ever more restrictive regulations. Figure 1: Opel’s rocket powered RAK2, with large side wings 2 Airfoils Airfoil can be definead as a shape of wing, as seen in cross-section. In order to describe an airfoil, we must define the following terms(Figure 2) • The mean camber line is a line drawn midway between the upper and lower surfaces. • The leading and trailing edge are the most forward an rearward of the mean camber line. 1Compared to an aircraft 1 • The chord line is a line connecing leading an trailing edge. • The chord length is the distance from the leading to the trailing edge, measured along the chord line. • The camber is the maximum distance between mean camber line and chord line. -

Autodromo Nazionale Monza since 1922 is a special point of refe- rence for worldwide motorsport and the Italian Grand Prix in this circuit is a unique and historical event for all drivers, teams and fans. The best has been made in order to bring the Autodromo's legend in the future of Formula 1: I'm trustful that the Italian Grand Prix will take place in Monza in the next years! Aviatore al decollo JOSEPH GILLES HENRI VILLENEUVE α 18 Gennaio 1950 Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu / Chambly (CANADA) Ω 8 Maggio 1982 Zolder / Leuven (NEDERLAND) oto più semplicemente come Gilles Villeneuve, è stato un pilota di Formula 1. Curiosamente iniziò la carriera sportiva partecipando a gare di motoslitte nella nativa provincia canadese del N Québec. Con tali mezzi, tra l’altro, arrivò alla vittoria del titolo mondiale, nel 1974, nella cate- goria fino a 440 c.c. Passato nel frattempo alla guida di monoposto, all’esordio nel 1973, divenne Campione del Québec di Formula Ford. Salito di categoria l’anno successivo, debuttò in Formula Atlantic. Vincerà nel bien- nio 1976 e 1977, alla guida della March-Ford, due Campionati canadesi (oltre a quello statunitense nel ’76). Un anno più tardi, dopo un brevissimo passaggio in Formula 2 (sempre con la March sul circuito di Pau in Francia), la McLaren lo fece esordire al Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna di Formula 1, destando ottime impressioni. Verso il temine della medesima stagione, il 1977, la Scuderia Ferrari lo ingaggiò in sostituzione di Niki Lauda (facendolo gareggiare nelle ultime due gare stagionali). Il legame con la Casa di Maranello divenne indelebile e durò per tutta la carriera. Con la Ferrari si aggiudicò sei vittorie nei Gran Premi di F. 1 e la prima posizione nella “Race of Champions” del 1979 (gara non valida per il campionato a Brands Hatch/GB). Ottenne il secondo posto nella Classifica Mondiale del 1979 (alle spalle del compagno di squadra Jody Scheckter), come miglior risultato in carriera. Tragicamente perì, nel 1982, in un drammatico incidente (causato da un contatto con la March di Jo- chen Mass), durante le qualifiche del Gran Premio del Belgio a bordo della Ferrari 126 C2. -
