Stewart-Haas Racing: NASCAR Timeline

During a media session at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, acknowledges that he has April 25, 2008 offers from other teams to drive that include acquiring an equity stake in the organization when his contract with Racing comes to an end.

Stewart announces on SIRIUS’ “Tony Stewart Live” that Newman will drive the No. 39 Chevrolet instead of the No. 4.

Aug. 19, 2008 Morgan-McClure Motorsports, which had used the No. 4 for several years in NASCAR competition, asked to keep the number for future use. Stewart and Newman opted for No. 39, the number Newman used to his first United State Auto Club (USAC) victory.

Hendrick Motorsports’ veteran engineer is named Stewart’s crew chief for the No. 14 Sept. 5, 2008 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet.

However, the last time a team started 1-2 and finished 1-2 with the same drivers in the same order was back on April 7, 1957 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway with DePaolo Engineering. There, won from the pole, while teammate started second and finished second. In Hendrick’s instance, won, but started second. started from the pole and finished second.

It is announced that IndyCar Series driver will run a limited NASCAR Cup Series Aug. 25, 2011 schedule with SHR in 2012. Details regarding Patrick’s car number and slate of races are not yet known.

Nov. 20, 2011 With the victory, Stewart ends the season in a numerical tie with Edwards, as each driver has 2,403 points. But Stewart wins the 2011 title by virtue of a tiebreaker, as his five wins on the season trump Edwards’ one. It is the closest Cup Series championship battle in NASCAR history. NASCAR finds that Racing (MWR) violated Section 12-4 (actions detrimental to ) during the Sept. 7 Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway, where the team attempted to manipulate the outcome of the race. NASCAR penalizes all three MWR cars (Nos. 15, 55 and 56) with the loss of 50 championship driver points and 50 Sept. 9, 2013 championship owner points. The point penalties are assessed following the season’s 26th race and before the seeding for the Chase for the Championship. Therefore, the point total for the No. 56 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. is reduced to 691, putting him in 17th position and eliminating him from the second wild-card berth for the Chase field. Newman moves into the Chase as the second wild- card participant. This is Newman’s fifth Chase appearance.

Newman scores 13th NASCAR Cup Series pole for SHR in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire
