(Erythraeidae), Eutrombidium fortunatae n. sp. both from Argentina and E. carazoense n. sp. from Nicaragua (Eutrombidiidae), all from larval instar are described. INTRODUCTION In South, Central and North America in the subfamily Balaustiinae (Erythraeidae) only five species based on larvae were known hitherto: Balaustium kendalii WELBOURN from USA, B. putmani SMILEY from Canada, B. medardi HAITLINGER from Peru, B. soydani HAITLINGER from Guatemala and B. minodorae HAITLINGER from Mexico. Moreover, B. obtusum TRÄGÅRDH from Juan Fernandez Isl. based on adults was noted (TRÄGÅRDH 1931, SMILEY 1968, WELBOURN & JENNINGS 1991, HAITLINGER 2000a, b). In this paper new species of Balaustium and Fozustium n. gen., n. sp. are described. In the family Eutrombidiidae from South, Central and North America only three species, based on larvae, were known hitherto: Eutrombidium orientale SOUTHCOTT from Canada and USA, E. occidentale SOUTHCOTT, E. centrale SOUTHCOTT and Verdunella lockleii (WELBOURN & YOUNG) all from USA (WELBOURN & YOUNG 1988, SOUTHCOTT 1993). Altogether 33 species of eight parasitic families of tleas (Ischnopsyllidae), batflies (Nycteribiidae), bugs (Cimicidae), mites (Spinturnicidae, Macronyssidae, Trom- biculidae, Sarcoptidae) and ticks (Argasidae, Ixodidae) were found. Eight species were recorded first time in Bavaria. All coilected parasites are deposited in the collection of the Zoologische Staatsammlung München (ZSM). Balaustium mite Balaustium medicagoense click for html version Summary: Balaustium mites are emerging as a significant crop pest in agricultural areas across southern Australia. They are the largest of the pest mites commonly found in broadacre crops. This species has a high natural tolerance to many insecticides and will generally survive applications aimed at other mite pests. Other strategies that are not reliant on chemicals, such as early control of summer weeds, should be considered. Occurrence: Balaustium mites are broadly distributed across the southern coastal regions of Australia. They are sporadically found in areas with a Mediterranean climate in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. They have also been found in Tasmania although their exact distribution is unclear. Balaustium mites are typically active from March to November, although mites can persist on green feed during summer if available. The known distribution of Balaustium mites in Australia (Source: cesar) Description: All mites are wingless and have four pairs of legs, no external segmentation of the abdomen and individuals appear as a single body mass. Balaustium mites grow to 2 mm in length and have a rounded red-brown body with eight red-orange legs. They are easily distinguished from other crop mites as they are much larger in size. Adults are covered with short stout hairs and are slow moving. They have distinctive pad like structures on their forelegs. Newly hatched mites are bright orange with six legs and are only 0.2 mm in length. Abstract Phytoseiulus macropilis Banks (Acari: Phytoseiidae) and Balaustium hernandezi von Heyden (Acari: Erythraeidae) have been identified as candidate augmentative biological control agents for the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae). The two-spotted spider mite is a significant pest of many commercial crops, including those grown in glasshouses. This study investigated the potential of both species to survive a typical northern European winter, and risk of establishment. Los ácaros correspondieron a adultos de las especies Ancistrocheles bregetovae y Macrocheles spp. (Macrochelidae), larvas de Leptus spp. (Erythraeidae) y deutoninfas de Myianoetus sp. (Histiostomatidae). Se reporta por primera vez la asociación parasítica entre especies de Leptus spp. con moscas Calliphoridae, y del mismo modo se amplía el conocimiento sobre los hospederos de A. bregetovae. Palabras clave: Foresis. Parásitos. Abstract: The discovery of 54 mites adhered to 23 individuals of Calliphoridae flies, in three wooded sites in Panama, is reported. The mites corresponded to adults of the species Ancistrocheles bregetovae and Macrocheles spp. (Macrochelidae), larvae of Leptus spp. (Erythraeidae) and deutonymphs of Myanoetus sp. (Histiostomatidae). The first report is made of the association between parasitic Leptus spp. with Calliphoridae flies, and in the same way information is broadened on the hosts of A. bregetovae.
