GAUME-Go Get The Good! In the sunny south of Belgium lies the Gaume is a delightful place with its Lorraine cuestas. These are three cliffs that cross the territory from east to west. Address to reach the Castle :Rue du Château-Fort, 6767 Rouvroy RUINS OF THE CASTLE OF MONTQUINTIN Montquintin Castle, locally known as Château de Montquintin, is situated in the rural village of the Gaume. Louis II built this castle to protect the boundaries of his province from numerous attackers. The oldest parts of Montquintin Castle date back to the 14th century. It was constructed by the Counts of Chiny. In its original state, it was a square castle with circular towers at its four corners. It was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. It is possible that the site, on which it was built was also used by the Romans as a lookout post for its commanding views over the lands of Gaume, enclosed as it is by the valleys of three brooks; the Ton, the Vire, and the Chiers. The castle’s farmhouse and the Montquintin’s rural life museum are major attractions here. This small three- celled farmhouse is a flawlessly preserved illustration of the indigenous rural architecture in Gaume. The castle is now a hearts calmfascinating ruin with only two corner towers left (the other two were torn down in 1770 and 1830). It’s a proud heritage of Belgium. CLASSIFIED SITE OF MONTAUBANA Nestled in the heart of the Gaumaise forest, the Montauban is a hotspot of archaeological location. hearts calm Past and present intertwine to make a place infused with magic. This place has a lot to offer. A complete corner of excitement. THE ABBEY OF ORVAL What does one do for enjoyment when one’s celibate and has to sit and pray half the day away? Brewing beer, getting piss drunk, and holding cellar parties. Fortunately, many monks shared this notion back in the day; otherwise, we would be drinking a lot more underrated beers today. The Abbey of Orval is one of the most impressive Cistercian abbeys of Belgium. The Orval Abbey – where one of only six official Belgian Trappist beers is made. It was founded in 1132. It was burned to the ground on several occasions in its 900-year history. It is still maintained by a community of monks that produce the famous beer of Orval and its cheese. You will get to know the secrets of the brewing knowledge in the museum. Anyone wishing to explore the entire abbey will have to book a room for some quiet examination because most of the buildings and courtyards are not open to normal visitors. What you can appreciate are the spectacular ruins of the original site, a wonderful herb garden, a monastery museum, and an exhibition on beer. Tasting can be done later in nearby l’Ange Garden. CAMPING DE LA SEMOIS The region is full of delightful camping spots. Camping de la Semois ascertained as the most distinctive out of them all. Camping in a tent on a brook, the Semois, in the south of the Belgian Ardennes is an everlasting experience. Activities are done during the day in the woods or on the water. In the twilight a bite to eat in the canteen and have a drink under the stars. You may light a fire in a steel container in front of the tent. These bins are available at the campsite, but you can also bring your own. This site is full of excitement, you can go camping, discover the Ardennes by canoeing, go mountain biking, hiking, raft trips to drop-offs, and many more. For the children, this can be torchlight hikes, donkey rides, drop-offs, or mountain bike tours. These activities arise spontaneously, often in collaboration with and by guests. You gonna enjoy hitting here to the fullest. THE GAUME MUSEUM The Gaume Museum is located in an old monastery from the 17th century. This fascinating museum offers something for everyone with archaeology, art, civil and religious ethnography, industrial and popular art, folklore legends, regional furniture and traditions, all correlated to the Gaume region. It is therefore the perfect museum to get to know all facets of the Gaume. The showpiece of the museum is unquestionably the jacquemart (an animated, mechanised figure which strikes the hours on a bell with a hammer – usually part of clocks or clock towers), The jacquemart is located on the facade of the tower that was inaugurated in 1968. It survives witness to the presence of the monks between the end of the 17th and the end of the 18th century. The Museum is incredible and full of antique things from the ancient era. You will always be fascinated by the things that are offered here. THE POIRIER DU LOUP VINEYARD Their wines are the fruit of a dream. Tracked down in one of the most glorious villages in Wallonia, Poirier du Loup is a communal vineyard governed by forty volunteers. The story of the vineyard is quite fascinating. The story starts in 1954 when Mr. Petit asks a lady known as “La Colettehearts calm” whether she could plant vine plants on her land. With time, the vineyard disappeared. Then it was in 1990 that a group of dreamy sweet friends planted 93 areas of vines with Pinot Noir, Auxerrois, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc grapes on the heights of Torgny, the southernmost Gaumais village in Belgium. A group of enthusiasts took up the challenge of bringing it back to life, focusing on organic viticulture. Production is now absolutely devoted to sparkling wines in the traditional method: a rosé in pinot noir and a blanc de blanc made up of chardonnay, pinot blanc and auxerrois. Two ratafias are also produced from the alcohol of marc resulting from the fermentation of pressing residues. It’s a beautifully manicured vineyard with extraordinary delicious wine.
