The method is based on the link of developmental stages of arthropods, especially of blowfly larvae, to their age. The major advantage against the standard methods for the determination of the early postmortem interval (by the classical forensic pathological methods such as body temperature, post- mortem lividity and rigidity, and chemical investigations) is that arthropods can represent an accurate measure even in later stages of the postmortem in- terval when the classical forensic pathological methods fail. Forensic entomology can help to estimate the time elapsed since death by studying the necrophagous insects collected on a cadaver and its surroundings. In this paper forty eight species (369 specimens) are listed that belong to seven families: Silphidae (3 species), Staphylinidae (6 species), Histeridae (11 species), Anobiidae (4 species), Cleridae (6 species), Dermestidae (14 species), and Nitidulidae (4 species). -

The new species resembles O. biguttatum (Philippi) in outer aspect, but has different male genitalia, in particular a median lobe longer than the paramera. All the described species of Oxelytrum have the median lobe shorter than the paramera. The internal sac, as far as it could be reconstructed from dry-pinned specimens, also shows differences between the two species. A key to the species of Oxelytrum is given and illustrated. Na druhé stran však dochází sou asn k jejímu ochuzování v souvislosti s rozvojem lidské spole nosti. Z pohledu ochrany p írody se proto horské ekosystémy adí mezi jedno z nejcenn jších a nejohrožen jších prost edí v globálním m ítku. V rámci p edložené doktorské práce byly studovány vybrané potenciáln významné antropické vlivy na biodiverzitu horských bezlesí Hrubého Jeseníku prost ednictvím modelové bioindika ní skupiny brouk (Coleoptera). V prostoru primárního bezlesí arkto- alpinní tundry byl studován vliv sjezdových tratí a invazivní d eviny borovice kle e ( Pinus mugo ) na spole enstva brouk . Na území sekundárních bezlesí podhorských luk a pastvin byl hodnocen vliv zem dlského hospoda ení na brouky a další bezobratlé. Studium vlivu lyža ského areálu prokázalo, že p estože jsou sjezdové trat v alpínské zón zájmového území provozovány zp sobem šetrným k vegetaci, tak pr kazn m ní pvodní spole enstva epigeických brouk . -

Signed: Date: 25/02/2018 1 Abstract This project presents the results of the analysis of fossil beetle assemblages extracted from 71 samples from two peat profiles from the Halashazi Wetland in the southern Altai region of northwest China. The fossil assemblages allowed the reconstruction of local environments of the early (10,424 to 9500 cal. yr BP) and middle Holocene (6374 to 4378 cal. yr BP). In total, 54 Coleoptera taxa representing 44 genera and 14 families have been found, and 37 species have been identified, including a new species, Helophorus sinoglacialis. The majority of the fossil beetle species identified are today part of the Siberian fauna, and indicate cold steppe or tundra ecosystems. Based on the biogeographic affinities of the fossil faunas, it appears that the Altai Mountains served as dispersal corridor for cold-adapted (northern) beetle species during the Holocene. Quantified temperature estimates were made using the Mutual Climate Range (MCR) method. In addition, indicator beetle species (cold adapted species and bark beetles) have helped to identify both cold and warm intervals, and moisture conditions have been estimated on the basis of water associated species. -

This study on Silphidae fauna was carried out at different sites forming part of an agricultural landscape. Catches were carried out in two selected habitats (Borek Stary and Widna Góra) in the Subcarpathian region (south-eastern Poland) during three growing seasons (2009-2010 and 2014) using Barber pitfall traps. It included potato, fodder beet and cereal crops (Widna Góra) as well as field margins (Borek Stary and Widna Góra). Four traps were placed at each of the sites studied then were emptied on average every two weeks. As a result of the observations, a total of 5491 beetles from 13 species were collected. Keywords: Silphidae, Thanatophilus sinuatus, Nicrophorus vespillo, crop culture, field margins Introduction Most representatives of carrion beetles (Col., Silphidae) are necrophagous and/or predatory. Herbivorous species are a minority (Anderson and Peck, 1985; Sikes, 2008). Alongside ground beetles (Col., Carabidae) and rove beetles (Col., Staphylinidae), beetles from this family are an important component of epigeic entomofauna of agricultural landscape from the ecological point of view (Tischler, 1955). Necrophagous carrion beetles perform important ecological functions, which can be particularly seen in the agricultural aspect. Biochemical transformations that accompany the decomposition of dead animals lead to an increased amount of mineral nutrients and humus in the soil and, as a further consequence, they affect soil fertility regeneration. -
