Stevie Wonder Medley
Stevie Wonder Like a fool I went ‘n’ stayed too long, now I'm wondering if your loves still strong Ooh baby, here I am, signed sealed delivered, I'm yours Here I am baby, signed sealed delivered, I'm yours (x 2) I’ve done a lot of foolish things, that I really didn’t mean For once in my life, I won't let sorrow hurt me, Not like it's hurt me before (not like it's hurt me) For once, I have something, I know won't desert me I'm not alone anymore (I'm not alone anymore) For once, I can say, this is mine you can't take it ‘Long as I know I have love I can make it For once in my life, I have someone who needs, Someone who needs me, someone who needs me When I see, ya on the street, my whole body gets weak When you're stan - ding in a crowd, your love talks to me so loud Girl do I do, what, you do, when, I do, my lo-ve to you My life has been waiting for your love, My arms have been waiting for your love to arrive My heart has been waiting my soul anticipating your love, your love, your love love love love Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand With an equal opportunity, for all to sing ‘n’ dance and clap their hands But just because a record has a groove don't make it in the groove But you can tell right away at letter A when the people start to move You can feel it all over, you can feel it all over people (x 2) Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful Isn't she precious, less than one minute old I never thought, through love we'd be, making one as lovely as she But isn't she lovely made from love You made my soul a burning fire, you're getting to be my one desire You're getting to be all that matters to me, ‘n’ let me tell you girl I hope, and pray, each, day I live, a little more love I'll have to give A little more love that's devoted and true, 'cos all I do is think about All I do, is think about you Baby just suppose I should happen to cross your mind I'm thinking baby, about you baby (x 2) All I do, is think about you (x 2). -
The First Spiritual Question: Do You Want to Get Well?
1 The First Spiritual Question: Do You Want To Get Well? ur first spiritual question can be found in the story about OJesus healing a man at the pool of Bethesda found in John 5:1-9. I think that when most of us read a gospel story like this, we focus on the act of healing that takes place. That is truly miraculous. If that is all we did, however, we would miss the re- ally meaningful and short interaction that Jesus has with a man who is an invalid. As we will see, we all have a part in an act of healing. There is nothing God can do for any of us, given our free will, if we are not willing to let him heal us. As we should always do, let us seek to understand the context of this story. John 5:1-9 “Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews” (v. 1). We know that in the Jewish calendar there are three main feasts. Given the timing of this story in the life of Jesus, the feast referred to here was probably Pentecost, one of 13 THE FIRST SPIRITUAL QUESTION the most important events in the Jewish calendar. It was custom- ary for Jews from all over to make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem for this feast. Jesus was not from the capital city, and the verse says Jesus went there for this purpose. It would be customary for the honorable Jewish man to “hang out” in the temple or be involved in religious activities. -
Sounding the Last Mile: Music and Capital Punishment in the United States Since 1976
SOUNDING THE LAST MILE: MUSIC AND CAPITAL PUNISHMENT IN THE UNITED STATES SINCE 1976 BY MICHAEL SILETTI DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2018 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor Jeffrey Magee, Chair and Director of Research Professor Gayle Magee Professor Donna A. Buchanan Associate Professor Christina Bashford ABSTRACT Since the United States Supreme Court reaffirmed the legality of the death penalty in 1976, capital punishment has drastically waxed and waned in both implementation and popularity throughout much of the country. While studying opinion polls, quantitative data, and legislation can help make sense of this phenomenon, careful attention to the death penalty’s embeddedness in cultural, creative, and expressive discourses is needed to more fully understand its unique position in American history and social life. The first known scholarly study to do so, this dissertation examines how music and sound have responded to and helped shape shifting public attitudes toward capital punishment during this time. From a public square in Chicago to a prison in Georgia, many people have used their ears to understand, administer, and debate both actual and fictitious scenarios pertaining to the use of capital punishment in the United States. Across historical case studies, detailed analyses of depictions of the death penalty in popular music and in film, and acoustemological research centered on recordings of actual executions, this dissertation has two principal objectives. First, it aims to uncover what music and sound can teach us about the past, present, and future of the death penalty. -
The Most Honest Essay About Bruce Springsteen You'll Ever Read
The Most Honest Essay about Bruce Springsteen You’ll ever Read I write this in response to a lot of comments I scroll through every so often when there’s a new article on Springsteen. Quite frankly it’s all boring comments in two forms. “Bruce is the man” or “That’s enough already, I’m over it, go away.” The latter is stone cold proof that people seriously have no lives. If you’re sick of something, why even acknowledge something was written? Justin Bieber on the cover of Rolling Stone with the words “Bad Boy”…. don’t care, it’s insulting to punk rockers everywhere this is a “bad boy.” I’m not going to go out of my way, log into a computer, scroll down, read a bunch of mindless comments with bad grammar just to say “go away dude etc, etc.” I’m going to lay this out with honest, direct language on behalf of Springsteen fans everywhere. The reason he gets so much press is because he’s still putting out damn good music. The people who are “sick” of him rarely mention that his music is no good; they’re just tired of seeing his name all over music news. His records are still good. Period. Some fans prefer the older stuff, some like it all except for the solo stuff, and some like everything. But, for being in the music business for as long as he has; his stuff is still solid. Sure, some songs are better than others. When you throw it all in one basket, it’s honest, well written, well recorded, turn up the stereo, good quality pure Rock-n-Roll. -
