Prior to becoming offensive coordinator, Steichen served as the Chargers’ quarterbacks coach from 2016-19. In that span, Philip Rivers earned three consecutive Pro Bowl honors following the 2016-18 sea- sons and ranked second in passing yards (17,824) and fourth in com- pletions (1,446) and passing touchdowns (116). In 2017, Los Angeles led the NFL in passing offense (276.9 ypg) and Rivers totaled the league’s second-most passing yards (4,515), behind Tom Brady (4,577). He also threw for 4,386 yards, including a career-high 16 passes of 40-plus yards, and 33 touchdowns (second-most in his career) in 2016.
