The programme includes close monitoring of knowledge, growth and general progression of the enterprise. The city of Ekurhuleni has established three incubaon centres and is in the process to set-up two more in this financial. The following are the incubaon centres that are established. Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project • The Ekurhuleni jewellery project is an incubaon setup through a partnership between Rand Refinery, Mintek Ekurhuleni City and SEDA. The purpose of this incubaon is to enhance beneficiaon in metal and stone to produce good quality jewellery. To do this the incubaon has to produce new quality entrants into the industry and teach them to manufacture such jewels and to comprehend latest technology and high-tech equipment’s. The incubaon has 20 incubates within it facili/es. Lepharo Base Metal Incuba8on • The Lepharo Base Metal Incubaon was ini/ally established to incubate businesses to manufacture base metals such as Brass, Aluminium etc. and to produce components with these base metals. Lepharo acquired more exper/se in running of incubaon centres and it was necessary to diversify product. At the present moment Lepharo has 51 incubates and are showing sign of success. • It is this reason that the EMM considers to extend the partnership with LEPHARO to op/mise the use of industrial Hives to uplij the tenant SMME and to implement proper monitoring and evaluaon systems. The city has implemented the Shared Industry Produc/on Facility project on behalf of the province through the Provisional Grant. Before then, the City has already been running the Industrial Hives Programme to support cooperaves with the working facility, machinery and equipment’s. Construc8on Incuba8on Spartan Industrial Park already Thirty Three (33) incubates has been recruited and training at the Centre. • The Ekurhuleni Seda Construc/on Incubator (SCI) was established in May 2014, however, the SCI Ekurhuleni Branch relocated to new premises located at number 68 Rigger Street, Spartan, Kempton Park. Renovaons and customizaon of the premises were assumed in on the third week of May. The recruitment of contractors started during the month of December 2014 whereby a group of outreach program was achieved ranging from CIDB grading 1-2. A second round of recruitment took place in April/May where the mainstream group has to be secured. Chemical Incuba8on will be set up in Tembisa Business Park and Thokoza(Project in Pipeline) • Chemin submiKed a proposal to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for the establishment of a Chemical Incubaon Programme. The incubaon programme will entail the establishment of two manufacturing hubs to be located at the Thokoza Fabricaon Laboratory and Sedibeng Industrial Hive Centre located in Tembisa. The main ac/vity at these hubs will be the manufacturing of chemical detergents, cosme/cs, hair care products and perfumes. The manufacturing of coangs will be established if and when incubates are iden/fied. INNOVATION PROGRAMME Fablab Conference in Boston in ‘15 Hos/ng of SA Innovaon Conference 2016 Innovaon Hub Allocaon of Three Offices to the Innovaon Hub in Tembisa Business Park Strengthening of Relaonship with CSIR and VUT TOWNSHIP ENTERPRISE HUBS The department has embarked in a programme to develop township hubs in support of the envisaged township economies development strategy. The hubs are centres where small businesses are supported to engage in a fruipul economic ac/vity. This may be manifested by providing trading space, incubaon facili/es, shared industry produc/on facili/es, light manufacturing workshop, business networks plat forms and mentorship or handholding sessions.
