CISNEROS Submitted to the Department of Architecture On May 6, 2005 in partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Visual Studies ABSTRACT The transnational summit, Regarding Evil, was called to assembly with the simultaneous sounding of the trumps in six sites around the world, projected simulcast. In collaboration with the six individuals who were issued the instruments, each announced their particular state of emergency and converged at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a seventh blast. Scotsman Kenneth Smith assumed the role of 7th piper. Artists and scholars of international reputation had been invited to present visual and discursive material confronting the elusive and immeasurable subject of Evil, its transpolitical behaviors, charismatic aesthetic, and viral disbursement in the vast enterprise of simulation, symbolic power, and catastrophe.

THE DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET “TIME OUTTAKES” is an alternate version of the masterful TIME OUT 1959 LP, with the seven tracks heard for the first time in crisp, different versions with a bonus track and studio banter. The album’s “Take Five” is the biggest selling jazz single ever, and hearing this in different form is downright thrilling. On LP and CD. Also smooth jazz reigns supreme with a CD release of a newly discovered live performance from sax legend GEORGE COLEMAN. “IN BALTIMORE” is culled from a 1971 performance with detailed liner notes and rare photos. Kick Out the Jazz! Something else we could use is a release from oddball novelty song collector DR.

It is an idealistic project, with the goal of sharing knowledge as freely as possible, with complete disregard for the boundaries imposed by traditional academia. Every spring for the past four years, we’ve posted an open call for submissions, and invited those whose work excited us to present it in a live, informal setting. We make almost no restric- tions on the subject matter or presentation style of the partic- ipants, and as such we’ve seen a tremendous pool of activists, fine artists, policy-makers, journalists, technologists, and sci- entists.

A couleur lokálban „Ettől a pillanattól kezdve külön érzem magam." — Levélinterjú Douglas Pierce-szel, a Death In June zenekar vezető egyéniségével — Az utóbbi kiadványaid egyszerre tűnnek retrospektív és önértelmező daraboknak (Crisis: Holocaust Hymns, Death In June: Abandon tracks, Behind the Mask-interjúfilm DVD/VHS'). Ezzel összefüggésben pár hónappal korábban bejelentetted, hogy visszavonulsz, miután hamarosan betöltöd az ötvenedik évedet. Úgy tűnik, üj fejezet nyílik az életedben. Van valamilyen sejtésed róla? A 2000-es években kiadott lemezeim nagy része retrospektív. Miután 1999-ben sza- kítottam a World Serpent kiadóval, rákényszerültem, hogy munkáimat újra kiadjam. Azóta más Death In June-kiadvány is megjelent már. (O. R.) 93 A couleur lokálban A Rose Clouds Of Nem szeretném túlmisztifikálni az utóbbi eseményeket, de látok bennük szimbolikusnak ható egybeeséseket: három r Holocaust körüli kiadvány — mindegyik retrospektív és önreflexív. Könnyen botrányról szembeötlik, a hármas szám gyakran szerepet játszik a munkáidban, hűséges kísérődnek tűnik. Te miképpen értelmezed ezeket az egybeeséseket? Ez a válaszom bizonyos pártok vádjaira, amelyek Igazad van, a 3-as valóban fontos szám az Életemben.

Athahn Steinback Dark Apostles – Hitler’s Oligarchs: Göring, Goebbels, Himmler, Heydrich and Revolutionary Totalitarian Oligarchy in the Third Reich By Athahn Steinback Abstract: In popular memory, the Third Reich and the Nazi party are all too often misremembered as a homogenous entity, entirely shaped and led by the figure of Adolf Hitler. This paper challenges the widely held misconception of a homogenous Nazi ideology and critically re-examines the governance of Nazi Germany by arguing that the Third Reich was not a generic totalitarian dictatorship, but rather, a revolutionary totalitarian oligarchy. The unique roles and revolutionary agendas of Hermann Göring, Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, and Reinhard Heydrich, provide case studies to demonstrate the nature of this revolutionary totalitarian oligarchy. The role of Hitler as the chief oligarch of Nazi Germany remains critical to the entire system of governance.

  • Industrial Music and Fascism
ASSIMILRELEASEATE A Critical History of Industrial Music PUBLIC S. ALEXANDER REED FOR NOT 1 13. Back and Forth: Industrial Music and Fascism 1. Extremism as the Norm Industrial music’s pan-revolutionary streak isn’t just fond of extreme imagery; it relies on it. Te Debordian tyranny of the spectacle, with its aligned control machines and hegemonies, is perceived as so all-encompassing that industrial music ofen takes neoliberal moderation as useless. In particular, the genre’s imagery of totalitarianism is pervasive enough to have rightly become a recur- ring topic of curiosity, caution, prurience, and debate within industrial music’s communities of fans and commentators. Graphically in videos, performances, and on record sleeves; sonically in the music’s unforgivinglyRELEASE quantized march rhythms and samples of political events, news, and flms; and discursively in bands’ lyrics and interviews, industrial music borrows from, enacts, mocks, documents, and embraces signifers of political and ideological extremism from seemingly every corner of human belief. Tis makes a certain sense given that the purported enemies on whom the genre fxes its crosshairs take so many forms. Instead of surveying and cataloguing industrial music’s extremist rheto- ric, this chapter looks deeply at how and why musicians use these signs (both theoretically and functionally),PUBLIC as well as how audiences have interpreted them. Troughout its entire history, the industrial music scene has been home to socialist ideologues, Randian libertarians, anarchists, academics, mistrusters of western intellectualism, utopian mystics, racial purists, nihilists with nothing to lose, and a substantial crowd who either hold aestheticized and underdeveloped ideologies or denyFOR any interest in politics, culture, and the discourse thereof, and who just want to dance.

  • Spectrum Magazine Archive
    - 1 - Spectrum Magazine (ambient / industrial / experimental music culture) Issue 5# review archive All reviews originally published in Issue 5#, released May, 2000 Spectrum Magazine Issue 5#: review archive - 2 - Ab OVO (Fra) “Triode” CD 2000 Fluttering Dragon To my surprise (yet again), Fluttering Dragon have released a very interesting album that is quite removed from the neo-classical/dark ambient releases that the label have previous released. The release in question, is much along the lines of the great Simple Dead CD (reviewed in Issue #4), but at the same times completely different. Minimalist ambient electronica (with a detectable dark streak) would be the broadest description I could give to this, as it is constructed on pretty subdued beats and rhythms that are structured in quite a cutting edge manner. For this reason, parallels to the Ant-Zen camp would have to be referenced. However not to be fooled by a minimalist description, these compositions are complex in construction and neither is specifically quiet - in essence the two elements you might normally associate with minimalism. It is rather a circumstance where the tuneful elements are kept to a minimum, as is the actual track flow, rather choosing to gradually evolve the atmospheres over long compositions. Subdued programmed beats, blips, electric hums, cut up textures, pulsating rhythms and the like are spliced together into melanges of sound that are further tweaked and twisted along the way. Track 5 (the title track) stands out, as it reminded me of Black Lung from the outset (which can only be read as a compliment in my eyes).
