DEFENSE How to Claim Checked Fee MANAGEMENT OFFICE

Many currently charge a fee for a passenger’s . According to the JTR/JFTR, any time a traveler is “charged a fee by the airline to accompanied baggage” (JTR/JFTR, Appendix A), the baggage is considered Excess Baggage and the associated fee is considered an Excess Baggage fee. The Authorizing Official (AO) can authorize the costs associated with the Excess Accompanied Baggage Transportation (JFTR, par.U3015, JTR, par.C2302, and JFTR/JTR Appendix G). When inserting the baggage fee into DTS, the traveler should use the Expense Type of Excess Baggage Fee to denote these charges. Sample screens of how this process works are shown below:

1. To enter the Excess Baggage Fee, navigate to the Expenses tab of the authorization or voucher and select Non-Mileage Expenses from the sub navigation bar (Figure 1).

2. From the Select Expense Type: drop-down list, select Excess Baggage (Figure 2).

3. Finish entering in the expense data including Cost, Date, and Method of Reimbursement (Figure 3).

4. After entering the remaining expenses in the same manner, select Save Expenses at the bottom of the screen (Figure 4).
