Tomographic PIV or 3D StrainMaster systems often need large Scheimpfl ug angles from oblique viewing points. The Scheimpfl ug mount version3 allows maintaining Scheimpfl ug angles up to 20° from any camera orientation without signifi cant loss of light intensity due to its free space internal design. Even at largest angles the internal obstruction is reduced to a minimum.

Technical Background When a camera images a scene in a configuration that the object plane is perpendicular (90° angle) to the optical axis then the image appears also in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis. The camera’s image sensor is always planar and when it is placed in the image plane the whole image is in focus from the center to the rim. If the angle between object plane and optical axis is different from 90° (like in a stereoscopic setup or under oblique imaging conditions) the image plane is also tilted and an image sensor which is placed perpendicular to the optical axis sees a blurred image in areas where the sensor plane and the tilted image plane do not coincide.
