The study identified most of all the known rivers in Imo State and provided information like relief, topography and other geographical features of the major rivers which are crucial to aid water management for a sustainable water infrastructure in the communities of the watershed. The rivers and lakes are classified into five watersheds (river basins) such as Okigwe watershed, Mbaise / Mbano watershed, Orlu watershed, Oguta watershed and finally, Owerri watershed. The knowledge of the river basins in Imo State will help analyze the problems involved in water resources allocation and to provide guidance for the planning and management of water resources in the state for sustainable development. Corresponding author: [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract: Nigeria is endowed with several resources of international ecological and touristic importance which should serve as the bases for sustainable tourism development but has not derived substantial benefits from the tourism market. With the largest population in Africa that can sustain domestic tourism, and many cultures which reflect in food and environment Nigeria is at advantage to attract both local and international tourists and therefore derive significant benefits for national development. However, the ecotourism resources of Nigeria are not packaged and promoted. Tourism in Nigeria is faced with numerous challenges: the biodiversity components are under serious threat; high rate of poaching and habitat destruction; lack of infrastructures; sabotage; poor global image; high level of insecurity; lack of awareness about tourism and conservation; poor tourism culture; insufficient facilities in eco-destination; poverty; corruption; underfunding; poor motivation of rangers; harassment by security personnel; poor road network and consistent traffic jam and poor maintenance culture amongst others. The tourism attractions in Nigeria when developed, properly packaged and promoted can satisfy the curiosity of almost every kind of tourists; and this will bring about increased benefits such as massive employment, increased revenue generation, local empowerment, foreign exchange earnings, creation of market for local product and development of infrastructures. -

The overall objective of the Niger Delta Support Programme (NDSP) is to mitigate the conflict in the Niger Delta by addressing the main causes of the unrest and violence: bad governance, (youth) unemployment, poor delivery of basic services. A key focus of the programme will be to contribute to poverty alleviation through the development and support given to local community development initiatives. The NDSP4 aims to support institutional reforms and capacity building, resulting in Local Gov- ernment and State Authorities increasingly providing infrastructural services, income gener- ating options, sustainable livelihoods development, gender equity and community empow- erment. This will be achieved through offering models of transparency and participation as well as the involvement of Local Governments in funding Micro projects to enhance impact and sustainability. -

The paper examined the availability of some social infrastructural facilities in rural parts of Imo State. It equally examined the extent to which those facilities have promoted rural development in the State. Data were collected mainly from primary sources. A total number of 2,340 copies of questionnaire were administered in eighteen communities and all were retrieved for the analysis. Research findings revealed unevenness in the availability of potable water supply and telephone (analogue landline) facilities. However, the availability of electricity, educational and health facilities were largely indicated by respondents in the 18 study communities to be well spread across the State. The paper noted some rural development implications as the result of the Z-test of proportion statistics led to the rejection of the null hypothesis and the acceptance of the alternative, which is that, majority of rural areas in Imo State, have significant presence of social infrastructural facilities that enhance economic activities. Sixty participating farmers from three villages where the NSPFS programme was implemented were interviewed to examine their socio-economic characteristics, level of living, level of awareness, adoption level and income level. List of Community Banks Converted to Microfinance Banks As at 31St
CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA IMPORTANT NOTICE LIST OF COMMUNITY BANKS THAT HAVE SUCESSFULLY CONVERTED TO MICROFINANCE BANKS AS AT DECEMBER 31, 2007 Following the expiration of December 31, 2007 deadline for all existing community banks to re-capitalize to a minimum of N20 million shareholders’ fund, unimpaired by losses, and consequently convert to microfinance banks (MFB), it is imperative to publish the outcome of the conversion exercise for the guidance of the general public. Accordingly, the attached list represents 607 erstwhile community banks that have successfully converted to microfinance banks with either final licence or provisional approval. This list does not, however, include new investors that have been granted Final Licences or Approvals-In- Principle to operate as microfinance banks since the launch of Microfinance Policy on December 15, 2005. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) hereby states categorically that only the community banks on this list that have successfully converted to microfinance banks shall continue to be supervised by the CBN. Members of the public are hereby advised not to transact business with any community bank which is not on the list of these successfully converted microfinance banks. Any member of the public, who transacts business with any community bank that failed to convert to MFB does so at his/her own risk. Members of the public are also to note that the operating licences of community banks that failed to re-capitalize and consequently do not appear on this list, have automatically been revoked pursuant to Section 12 of BOFIA, 1991 (as amended). For the avoidance of the doubt, new applications either as a Unit or State Microfinance Banks from potential investors or promoters shall continue to be received and processed for licensing by the Central Bank of Nigeria. -
Situation Room's Statement on State of the Nation
SITUATION ROOM’S STATEMENT ON STATE OF THE NATION Issued in Abuja at 3.00pm: Wednesday, 24th March 2021 The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (Situation Room) held a strategy meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, 23rd March 2021 to review its Threshold Document for the 2023 General Elections. The meeting also reviewed the State of the Nigerian nation and reached the following decisions: Insecurity The security situation in Nigeria is deteriorating and manifesting in the form of banditry, kidnappings, etc posing a major threat for the 2023 general elections. The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) occasioned by insecurity is increasing beyond the North, into other parts of the country. This is further fuelled by the repatriation and resettling of Nigerian refugees from neighbouring countries. Situation Room questions the actors behind the insecurity situation, which appears to be strategic, organised and lucrative. Particularly the possible involvement or complicity of political leaders in these recurring incidents, which have been carried out unrepelled. Situation Room is worried that the government has not demonstrated competence and political will to tackle insecurity threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria. Other insecurity concerns are: i. Insecurity is also linked to the high rate of unemployment in the country. ii. Economy: With agriculture being a major potential for the much- needed economic diversification, farmers are unable to visit their farms in some parts of the country owing to insecurity. iii. Security & Governance challenges and general upsurge of violence in the South East, occasioned by the communal crisis in 1 Effium and Ezza communities in Ebonyi State, and the recent clash in Orlu LGA between the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Soldiers were among the most violent in recent times. -
