Disability News Newsletter for Newcastle United’S Disabled Supporters Around the World September 2018 Newsletter
SEPTEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER NEWCASTLE UNITED DISABILITY NEWS NEWSLETTER FOR NEWCASTLE UNITED’S DISABLED SUPPORTERS AROUND THE WORLD SEPTEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER NEWCASTLE UNITED 1. INTRODUCTION 2. NUFC AND STEPHEN 3. FOUNDATION NEWS 4. BOX OFFICE NEWS 5. SENSORY ROOM UPDATE 1. INTRODUCTION The new season is upon us and although we have faced the expected difficult start, we're all behind the team and believe in them wholeheartedly. The sensory room is now fully up and running, and is proving very popular. The wheelchair spaces have been increased, so we now have 234 slots available. There is more accessible seating in the Gallowgate. Change is always ongoing. I was at a meeting with the disabled supporters association (NUDSA) and they are this month celebrating 20 years in business. They are a quite remarkable group of individuals, who never fail to inspire me. The main protagonists are Gareth Beard, who you may remember had an article in last month’s newsletter and has been the Chair of NUDSA for years, Stephen Miller who is a highly decorated Paralympian, and writes in this newsletter, Ros Miller (Stephens mum / coach / boss) and the Leazes ender Joe Ayton who has been there since the start. They have produced a magnificent magazine which celebrates their 20 years and looks back at the journey. It is well worth a read if you can get a copy. NUDSA have been instrumental in working with NUFC to invoke a better deal for disabled supporters, and I hope they are even stronger in 2028 when they celebrate their 30th. 1 Abstract Purpose: This Paper Aims to Highlight and Encourage
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Leeds Beckett Repository Abstract Purpose: This paper aims to highlight and encourage consideration of the ethical and in some instances legal implications of managerial change in the EPL which often gets overlooked and sidestepped by clubs. Design/methodology/approach: Extant literature relating to managerial change is identified and discussed to provide the foundations of the discussion of whether managerial change in the EPL which is primarily focused on performance outcome, is neglecting ethical and legal issues. Findings: The loophole that exists in the Employment Rights Act (1996) allows clubs to instantly dismiss a manager and consequently not see out their notice period as agreed in their contract or the statutory notice period. Whilst legally clubs are at will to act in this manner, the instability of EPL management evident today appears to have taken away the rights of an employee. Practical implications: Greater consideration of the current managerial change practices in EPL from an ethical and legal perspective appears warranted. The incomparable rights that a player and a manger have relating to their tenure at a club seem somewhat unfair. Originality/value: Presents thought-provoking information relating to managerial change in the EPL which appears to have been overlooked in the literature to date which primarily focuses on the impact of change on performance. Keywords: Managerial Change, English Premier League, employment rights Paper type: Viewpoint 1 Introduction The apparently unique nature of professional team sports and leagues dictates that individual teams, while seeking a dominant position in a winner-takes-all scenario, require competitors to provide opposition, entertainment and commercial possibility (Williams, 2012). -

Fired-Up Mourinho Renews Battle with Conte's Chelsea
Sports FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2017 Northern giants clash with EPL return in sight MANCHESTER: It will be a Premier League game in all but name when Newcastle United face Leeds United at St James’ Park today, with two of the traditional powers of northern English football seeking a return to the top flight. Newcastle, relegated from the Premier League last season, are second in the Championship and well placed for an immediate return, while Leeds, in fifth place, will look to get through the play-offs and end their 13 years in the lower divisions. The two clubs have histories that make them known well beyond their pas- sionate local support bases. Both are both former champions of England, with Leeds having won the last title before the creation of the Premier League in 1992. They have both won European trophies - Leeds twice capturing the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the forerunner MANCHESTER: Manchester United’s Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho (left) walks away as his players of today’s Europa League, while Newcastle won the same com- take part in a team training session at their Carrington base in Manchester, north west England. —AFP petition in 1969. The financial troubles which caused the team’s relegation battle with Conte’s Chelsea from the top flight in 2004 were also to blame for a slump into the third tier (League One) for three seasons, until they returned to the Championship in 2007. -
