Come and explore the amazing Hull! If you are interested in art then visit our brilliant Ferens art gallery. Also, you can visit our fantastic Deep. As well as having a great time at these attractions you can have an even better time at Hull fair, which is on every year in October. As well as having a great time outside, why don’t you have a great time inside with the Woodford leisure center? Here there are lots of things to do like enjoying the wave machine and water slide, also they have a baby pool where younger children can have fun. Furthermore it’s not just all about swimming, it’s also about having fun at the clubs that go on there all year round like: dancing, gymnastics, karate and lots more. When you get hungry you can go into town and grab a snack from McDonalds. After that you could go to Queens Gardens and admire all the wonderful flowers. If you don’t feel like fast food you can go to Frankie and Benny’s, Nandos, Pizza Express, Pizza Hut and loads more. Or if you feel up for a movie and popcorn you can pop to the VUE cinema and watch a lot of new films like the Smurfs 2. IN HULL By Thomas Clarke & Jack Hague Welcome to our guide to visiting all the exciting places in Hull. We’ll take you on a journey around our amazing city! The best places to see rugby in Hull are at the KC stadium and Craven Park. The KC stadium is the home of Hull FC. However, there’s Craven Park which is the home of Hull Kingston Rovers - the rivals of Hull FC. The KC stadium is also the home of Hull City - the Premier League football team. Furthermore, Hull has some fantastic restaurants. The best places to eat in Hull are The Railway Inn and Mimosa, which is a Turkish restaurant; both of the restaurants are ranked five stars! If your children love sport, Hull is a great place to be! There are many sports teams and leisure centres such as Woodford and Ennerdale leisure centre. Furthermore, there are many football teams, rugby teams and sporting clubs such as: boxing, karate and kickboxing. You can box at St Pauls and you can also do gymnastics at Sutton Village gymnasium. At the Deep you can now see penguins and sharks! It is a great place to go if you’ve never been there before or love sea life! 04 Malet Lambert Summer School 2013 Magazine OUR HULL By Lucy Marsden & Katie Sullivan Attractions for young people in Hull: One of the many amazing attractions for young people in Hull is Lazer Quest. Lazer Quest is the game hide and seek with a high-tech twist. However, this fabulous day out is only recommended for children aged seven and over. Another fantastic attraction is Big Fun - a large indoor play area with four monster slides and five very safe trampolines. This brilliant indoor play area also includes a smaller play area for children aged four and under. An attraction we would highly recommend for children who like to be with their friends is Hollywood Bowl. This is an extremely modern and up to date bowling area which also includes an arcade. Hull’s main attractions: The Deep - the world’s only submarium - is the perfect day out for the whole family. It holds a whopping 3,500 fish including Europe’s only pair of green sawfish. With opening times of 10am till 6pm, you have all the time in the world to explore this wonderful aquarium. Princes Quay is the perfect place to shop, eat and visit the Vue cinema. Best places to eat and drink: Nandos, the highly popular restaurant, appears many times in Hull’s shopping centres. If your busy but still want a Nandos for lunch, there is always the take away option. Pizza Express is another great place to grab lunch; this terrific Italian is home to lots of pizza and pasta. Malet Lambert Summer School 2013 Magazine 05 YOUR HULL By Zarra Farrer Hello and welcome to our magazine, about Hull. Here you will learn about the fantastic attractions for young children and older people. Attractions for young people The amazing East Park is a great place to visit. Here there are numerous things to do such as riding the splash boat, seeing the animal collection of snakes, tarantulas, millipedes, beetles and many more things. At Pearson Park there is a brilliant terrarium and a pond. Main attractions in Hull The Deep is the world’s only subarium. The different types of fish include clownfish, sharks and many more. There is also a Hull fair that is one of the largest travelling fairs in Europe. The fair is one of Hull's biggest traditions, as well as one of its oldest, having reached its 700th anniversary in 1993. Carrying on with such tradition, the fair is opened by the Lord Mayor of Hull on the first evening, normally at 5 pm. It first opened from 9th to 23rd March 1278. My tips for visiting Hull Visiting the brilliant city of Hull is the best feeling ever, so I hope you enjoy Hull as much as I do! WHAT IS HULL? By Holly Davidson & Bethany Jefferson We think Hull is better now than it ever has been. Hull has lots of new places including clothes and shoe shops. All the schools look wonderful with all the new play areas and things to sit on. Hull fair is brilliant and fantastic for young children and adults as well. Adult rides are extremely scary, however on some rides children can go on them with parents. For small children the rides are really fun and they aren’t scary. Also at Hull fair you can buy food, drinks and play games like hook a duck! In Hull, the Toy Shop is a great place for children to go because there are lots of great toys. However, it may be expensive and you may only be allowed toys as a treat. Swimming is good for you because it keeps you fit and keeps children healthy and happy. At some of the swimming pools in Hull such as Woodford, there are slides that are great fun for children. The Woodford leisure Centre is an amazing place for children. The cinema is good for a day out and there are films for everyone. Furthermore the films that are out now are: The Smurfs 2, Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, Grown Ups 2 and a lot more. These films are outstanding! Bowling is also good for a day out! Therefore, we would recommend going there - although we don’t go often. 06 Malet Lambert Summer School 2013 Magazine HULL’S THE BEST By Ben Brown and Lillie-Mai Green The Deep The Deep is one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world and is home to a whopping 3,500 fish. The Deep also has Europe’s only pair of green sawfish, spectacular sharks and rays. The Deep is a 5 minute walk from Hull Marina and is close to the City Centre. If you want a fun day out then The Deep is definitely the place to go! At the Deep you can see the amazing story of the world’s oceans through stunning marine life and fun, interactive presentations. The Deep is an environmental and conservation charity dedicated to increasing the knowledge and understanding of the world’s oceans. Hull Fair This carnival of merriment is the largest travelling funfair in Europe and one of the oldest. Local tradition states that the changing of the calendar in 1751 led the locals to believe the loss of eleven days affected their fair. “Give us back our eleven days,” was the cry as an enraged mob charged around the streets of Hull, calling for the return of their eleven day festivities which they believed to have been lost due to the calendar change. The outraged masses got their wish and from that year onwards 11th October, or the Friday nearest to it, became the official date for Hull Fair. KC Stadium The KC Stadium, or KC, is a multi-purpose stadium that cost approximately £44 million to build! It’s called the KC as Kingston Communications sponsor the stadium name.

  • Pre-Departure Guide for International Students 2019/20 Congratulations on Choosing the University of Hull
Pre-departure guide for international students 2019/20 Congratulations on choosing the University of Hull I am delighted that you have chosen the University of Hull, and I am looking forward to you joining us in September. We are incredibly proud to welcome students from more than 100 countries to our university – this diversity, and making people feel included, is part of who we are. Students love our campus and all that it offers them. The word most commonly used to describe us is “friendly”, and I would absolutely echo that sentiment. The sense of community and pride here is palpable. Everywhere you look on campus there is evidence of our £300-million investment programme to help deliver the best possible student experience, teaching and research. As well as strengthening our student services and IT infrastructure, this includes brand-new accommodation on campus, our new health campus opened by Her Majesty The Queen, a concert and performance venue, and a new £16-million investment to enhance our sports facilities. We aim always to put our students first by creating a rich and varied platform for them to shine, and support them in achieving their goals and ambitions. Our students go on to transform lives and positively impact society – whether that’s in the arts, business, politics, law, teaching, healthcare or science and engineering. It is testament to their hard work and dedication, and that of my colleagues who support our students on that journey, that 97.9% of our international graduates progress into work or further study within six months of completing their studies here.† I wish you a safe journey to Hull, and I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful green campus in September.
