In 1993 he helped open Lopez Sam Hjort is in his seventh year of teaching as an Assistant Band Director at Lopez High School in the Brownsville ISD. High School as a woodwind specialist and assistant director under Stacey Dunn. Prior to that, he worked in the Los Fresnos He conducts the Concert Band, assists with the Marching Band, teaches all low brass sectionals, and directs the Color Guard from 1987 to 1992 as a middle school assistant and head director. Under Mr. Treviño’s leadership, the Lopez marching band program. While at Lopez, the marching band advanced to the Texas State Marching Band Contest in 2010, 2012, and 2014, and has won class champion at the BOA Houston and McAllen Regional competitions; they have advanced to the Texas State the Symphonic Band was named a Texas State Honor Band finalist in 2012 and 2014. Through the focus of one-on-one instruction from Mr. Treviño attended and received a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Texas - Pan American after the Lopez staff, many students have earned membership in local, regional, and state honor bands. attending Baylor University and the University of North Texas respectively. During this time he also enjoyed a career as a Mr. Hjort attended the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music free-lance saxophonist in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Mr. Treviño’s bands have enjoyed being chosen as “Best in Class” and Education. While at UGA, he studied tuba with David Zerkel and performed with the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and “Best Band of the Day” at a number of concert festivals throughout the state. The Symphonic Band has earned nothing less Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Dr. John Lynch, Dr. David Romines, and Dr. Clinton Taylor respectively. Mr. Hjort had than superior ratings at the University Interscholastic League Concert and Sightreading contests since the school opened in the privilege of performing with the Wind Ensemble at the 2009 College Band Directors National Association conference as 1993. He has served as an adjudicator for marching and concert at the region, area, and state level. Mr. Treviño is a recipient well as with the Redcoat Marching Band on a 2006 tour of China. Mr. Hjort hails from Valdosta, Georgia, where he graduated of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence award, an honor awarded to outstanding concert band directors whose from Valdosta High School. Mr. Hjort’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Band Masters ensembles have a history of a distinguished level of accomplishment. Association, National Association for Music Education, and International Tuba Euphoinium Association. He attributes his love for music to his mother and father, Maria Z. and Teofilo Treviño. With their encouragement, he was able to begin his journey through music which helped to foster his career in the field. He enjoys spending his time away from Dr. Ramon Vasquez the band hall with his wife of 28 years, Lucy, and their two daughters Julia and Laura. Both daughters attended the University of Dr. Ramon Vasquez is currently an Assistant Band Director at Lopez High School in Brownsville, Texas where his Houston pursuing degrees respectively in History and Music/Business. responsibilities include the high brass studio and the Jazz Orchestra. Alongside his position at Lopez Early College High School, His concert bands have benefited from a rigorous commitment in pursuing a quality education through performing quality Dr. Vasquez is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Prior to his appointment at Lopez literature at the highest level. Treviño is sought after as a clinician and has presented clinics at the Texas Music Educators High School, Dr. Vasquez held appointments at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Auburn University and at the University Association and Texas Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music of Minnesota, Duluth.In addition to his teaching, Dr. Vasquez pursues an active and diverse performance career. He was Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu. awarded the First Prize at the National Trumpet competition in the Masters Division and was an Associate Member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra. He has also performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, Dallas Wind Symphony, Michael Garza the Intergalactic Contemporary Ensemble, the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra, the Big Time Jazz Orchestra, the University of North Michael Garza is in his sixth year of teaching public school and fourth year as the percussion director at Lopez High School. Texas One O’clock Lab Band, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Sheena Easton, Peabo Bryson, Barry Manilow, and Ernie Watts. Under his direction, the Lopez Indoor Drumline won the gold medal at the 2016 Texas Educational Colorguard Association. As an educator, Dr. Vasquez has been an invited clinician in the United States, Canada, Thailand and Australia. He has He attended Lopez High School under the direction of Mr. George Trevino and was a member of the 4A Texas State Honor given clinics at the Alabama and Minnesota Music Educators Association Mid-Winter Clinics as well as at the International Band in 2004. He was also a TMEA All State member in 2005. Mr. Garza attended Texas A & M University at Kingsville having Trumpet Guild Conference serving as the Jazz Solo Competition Chair, the Composition Contest Chair and has adjudicated at earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education while studying under Mr. John Fluman. His performances experience while at the National Trumpet Competition. He has worked on the brass staffs with Minnesota Brass Inc., the Phantom Regiment, the TAMUK includes the Wind Symphony, Kingsville Symphony Orchestra, Javelina Marching Band and Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Colts, the Blue Stars, Spirit of Atlanta, the Santa Clara Vanguard and the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Garza has been a member of the Revolution Drum & Bugle Corps in 2008 and Mystikal Drum & Bugle Corps in 2009. Dr. Vasquez holds a Bachelor’s of Music Degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, a Masters of Music Degree from the University of North Texas and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Monica Vasquez His primary teachers include Mr. Galindo Rodriguez, Dr. Leonard Candelaria, Mr. Keith Johnson, Manuel Laureano and Dr. Monica Vasquez is a native of Brownsville, Texas. She attended Simon Rivera High School . Ms. Vasquez earned her David Baldwin. Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Houston where she studied oboe under Dr. Robin Hough. Ms. Vasquez is in her 17th year as a Double Reed Specialist for Brownsville I.S.D. Ms. Vasquez has had a number of her past students make the TMEA All State Bands and Orchestra as well as been a staff member with Lopez High School band winning the TMEA Honor Band in 2004 and 2017..
