  • February 26, 2021 Amazon Warehouse Workers In
February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. In solidarity and support, Megan Abbott (DARE ME) Chris Abbott (LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE; CAGNEY AND LACEY; MAGNUM, PI; HIGH SIERRA SEARCH AND RESCUE; DR. WHAM buys local channel Bibliography Document 1 of 1 WHAM buys local channel Author: Chao, Mary ProQuest document link Abstract: Mary Chao Staff writer The parent company of WHAM-TV (Channel 13) has acquired the local CW affiliate, which airs shows such as Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. Full text: Mary Chao Staff writer The parent company of WHAM-TV (Channel 13) has acquired the local CW affiliate, which airs shows such as Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. The CW affiliate, WRWB (cable Channel 16), had been a joint venture of Time Warner Cable and Warner Brothers. Now it will be operated by Clear Channel Television's WHAM and will be renamed CW-WHAM, said Chuck Samuels, vice president and general manager of Channel 13, who will head both stations. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The CW was created when Warner Brothers merged with UPN, taking the "C" from CBS, which owned UPN, and the "W" from Warner. The Rochester station will remain on cable Channel 16 and will also be available as WHAM-DT on digital channel 13.2. Samuels said the station will complement Channel 13. "The CW has a very different target audience," he said. "While most networks such as ABC target (ages) 18 to 49, the CW targets 18 to 34, even 12 to 34." The CW will help WHAM's already established news brand by reaching out to younger audiences, Samuels said. WRWB's operations in downtown Rochester will be consolidated into WHAM's facilities in Henrietta.

  • Craig Ferguson
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 13, 2009 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT & BOULEVARD CASINO PRESENT CRAIG FERGUSON FRIDAY, JUNE 12 – RIVER ROCK SHOW THEATRE SATURDAY, JUNE 13 – RED ROBINSON SHOW THEATRE Craig Ferguson entered the world of late night comedy following a diverse and eclectic career that encompasses film, stage and television. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he got his start in the entertainment industry as a drummer for several punk bands in the UK. Following his musical stint, he began bartending at a local pub in Glasgow where he was introduced to Michael Boyd, the artistic director of The Tron Theatre in Glasgow who persuaded Ferguson to give acting a go. After several low playing acting gigs, he discovered he had a knack for comedy and was soon the star of his own BBC television show, “The Ferguson Theory” in 1994. After several stints on the English comedy circuit, Ferguson brought his act to the US in 1995 when he starred with Marie Osmond and Betty White in the short-lived ABC sitcom, “Maybe This Time.” After the show ended, the network decided to add the talented Scotsman to “The Drew Carey Show” where he joined the cast in 1996 playing the role of Drew’s boss, “Nigel Wick” for eight seasons. Along with acting, he has written such feature films as The Big Tease (1999) and Saving Grace (2000). He made his directorial debut with the 2003 film, I’ll Be There which he also wrote and starred in. It went on to receive the Audience Award for Best Film at the Aspen, Dallas and Valencia film festivals … he was also named “Best New Director” at the Napa Valley Film Festival.

New York Times Columnist, Tom Friedman, said this about the film in The New York Times: “Obama should arrange for this movie to be shown in every classroom in America. It is the most inspirational, heartwarming film you will ever see.” Named as one of the 10 best documentary films on education by Take Part and selected as a finalist for VH1’s DO- SOMETHING Awards, the film was also called “inspiring… should be compulsory viewing in high schools around the country” (Lael Lowenstein, Variety), “very well made” (Mike Hale, The New York Times), “important,” (Marshall Fine, Huffington Post). • 1 Introduction to 'Ideology' 2 Ideology and the Paradox of Subjectivity 3
Notes 1 Introduction to ‘Ideology’ 1. Bell, unlike Francis Fukuyama, carefully avoids equating the end of ideology with utopia or near-utopia. 2 Ideology and the Paradox of Subjectivity 1. In his ‘De la Métaphysique de Kant,’ de Tracy explicitly excoriates Kant for his lack of scientific method and chides him for developing ‘the inverse of reasoning’ in the Critique of Pure Reason (cited in Kennedy 1978, 118–19). 2. In ‘The Poet,’ Emerson calls for a radical poetic aesthetic that would eschew the artificial constraints of meter and adopt an ‘organic form.’ Interestingly, Emerson also developed the concept of the ‘oversoul,’ which owes much to Hegel’s Geist. 3. In his Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis (1915–17), Freud dissects the subject into three parts: super-ego, ego, and id. These correspond roughly to conscience, consciousness, and desire. The ego attempts to regulate between the super-ego and the id. 4. Freud fails to suggest, however, that religion fulfills its ostensible moral purpose: ‘in every age immorality has found no less support in religion than morality has’ (1964, 68). 5. Zizek distinguishes between cynicism – the classic ideological response to social reality – and ‘kynicism,’ the ‘popular, plebian rejec- tion of the official culture by means of irony and sarcasm’ (1989, 29). In the latter instance, subjects appeal not to reason, but to parody. The subject mocks the gravity of official doctrine by exposing the self-interest of the principals. Saturday Night Live and Mad TV, for example, lampoon the ultra-earnestness of political candidates through caricature. In one such skit, Bill Clinton’s famous empathy (‘I feel your pain’) is undercut by a portrait in which he cannot restrain his sexual impulses for even a moment.
