Dillon -iii- Abstract This thesis examines the lives of the convict workers who constituted the primary work force in the Campbell Town district in Van Diemen’s Land during the assignment period but focuses particularly on the 1830s. Over 1000 assigned men and women, ganged government convicts, convict police and ticket holders became the district’s unfree working class. Although studies have been completed on each of the groups separately, especially female convicts and ganged convicts, no holistic studies have investigated how convicts were integrated into a district as its multi-layered working class and the ways this affected their working and leisure lives and their interactions with their employers. Research has paid particular attention to the Lower Court records for 1835 to extract both quantitative data about the management of different groups of convicts, and also to provide more specific narratives about aspects of their work and leisure. -

14 Transport Infrastructure Transport Infrastructure SECTION 14 14 Transport Infrastructure Summary Road The Queensland Coke and Power Plant Project (the Project) will primarily generate private vehicle traffic relating to operation and construction, with low volumes of heavy vehicle traffic during the operational stages of the facility. All vehicle access to the project site will be via Power Station Road. Project traffic generation has been conservatively estimated based on the expected construction and operation of the plant. Light vehicle traffic has been assumed to be proportional to anticipated staff numbers at the plant and has been distributed and assigned to the network in accordance to the probable residence of plant employees during construction and operation. Construction is scheduled to proceed from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm six days a week, and therefore, the transport of construction workers to and from the site by bus is unlikely to coincide with the operation of school bus services. The Gladstone Road/Port Curtis Road/Lower Dawson Road intersection will exceed the desirable Degree of Saturation (DOS) under background growth. The Project will not add traffic to the critical movement at the intersection. The addition of project-related traffic to the roundabout located at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Capricorn Highway will cause an increase in the DOS of the intersection. Additional project traffic will bring forward the year at which the intersection would exceed the desirable DOS. In terms of pavement impact, the Project will increase the annual Equivalent Standard Axle (ESA) loading on a number of links between Power Station Road and the Bruce Highway. -

Tasmanian Freight Survey 2008-09 – Data Summary Page 1 of 38 Tasmanian Freight Survey Data Summary 2013 Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources Tasmanian Freight Survey 2008-09 – Data Summary Page 2 of 38 Tasmanian Freight Survey Data Summary 2013 Introduction The Tasmanian Freight Survey is undertaken by the Infrastructure Strategy Division of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (DIER) to inform planning for Tasmania’s future freight transport system. The 2011-12 Survey is the fourth time that the survey has been conducted, with previous surveys held in 2002-03, 2005-06 and 2008-09. Around 150 interviews were conducted, allowing DIER to capture data from many businesses across Tasmania; to understand freight movements to and from businesses; the frequency of trips; and the types of vehicles used. Survey results can be compared to previous years’ results to better understand changes in freight demanding industries, such as the recent decline in the forestry task, and major structural changes to the freight system such as the withdrawal of a direct international shipping service from the Port of Launceston (Bell Bay). The Survey provides a summary of large freight movements across the major parts of Tasmania’s land transport network. The Survey provides information on: • the location of freight trips, including: o movements between and through major sea and air ports; and o between industrial areas and across network segments (road and rail). • freight tonnage; • commodity type; and • mode and vehicle type. Data from the Survey is used for a number of different purposes, including: • detailed freight movement analysis and modelling for projects including funding submissions and State transport policies; • developing the State Road Hierarchy; • developing regional integrated transport plans, including the o Southern Integrated Transport Plan; o Northern Integrated Transport Plan; and o Cradle Coast Integrated Transport Plan • assessing the potential impact of road development proposals on freight movement. -
