This article traces the efforts of Philips researchers to find a balance between their professional goals and status and the company’s strategy. The X-ray research, overseen by Gilles Holst, the laboratory’s director, and Albert Bouwers, the group leader for the X-ray department, was a financial failure despite at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam on April 6, 2011 technological successes. Chapter No.l RATIONALE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY 1.1 A REPORT ON GLOBAL TELEVISION MANUFACTURERS INDUSTRY A significant change in consumer and industiy dynamics are currently happening in the TV set industry. Rapid changes in technology and industry structure present unique challenges to all players in the value chain of video content development and delivery. Understanding these dynamics, designing strategies to benefit from them and executing business operations is vital for TV set manufacturers and adjacent industries to thrive in this dynamic industiy. TVs are a fundamental staple of the consumer electronics market, consistently representing around 30% of annual global consumer electronics product sales. Manufacturers shipped an estimated 210 million TV sets in 2009, representing a modest 3.1% CAGR in the last 5 years. As global economic growth has slowed in the last two years since 2007, TV set growth fell to 2.5%o annually. Stark regional differences exist in TV set shipments but global growth overall is slow and likely to be slowing further. In the developed world, consumers are replacing their tube TV sets with flat-panel TVs. in 2009, 36million such sets were shipped to the US and 45 million were shipped to Europe, a 12.4%) compound annual growth rate since 2007.But growth will slow quickly in these regions as the replacement cycle of tube TVs by flat panels matures. The developing world has seen flat to slightly negative growth in TV set shipments in the last two years, reflecting a modest slowdown in wealth accumulation. Market maturity in the developed world and the near end of the replacement cycle portends slow growth in global TV shipments despite V .

Anton Philips (1874 - 1951) They will know who they're dealing with © Marcel Metze Balans Publishers, Amsterdam, 2004, isbn 90 5018 612 2 Summary In January 1895 young Anton Philips travelled to Eindhoven, a small town in the southern part of The Netherlands. His brother Gerard had a little factory there for the production of electric light bulbs and needed a sales-assistant. He was twenty and expected to spend half a year in Eindhoven, at the most. Things turned out differently. As a trade school student he had been a failure but he did like the practice of selling and buying. So he decided to stay. Anton was gifted with natural charm, a negotiating talent, energy and confidence. He had courage: In 1898, just twenty-four years old and hardly speaking any foreign languages, he took a train to Russia and returned with huge orders. He became a formidable salesman: in 1912, he started a joint venture in the USA and in a couple of years reached 10 percent of General Electric's sales numbers, making this giant fear that he would eventually threaten its dominant market position. He had an excellent nose for business opportunities. When World War One broke out in 1914, the Russians wouldn't buy German lamps anymore. Anton immediately sent one of his salesmen to St. Petersburg. His speed of action was unparalleled. When the war ended in November 1918 and British forces re-captured Brussels, he was right behind them to start Philips' first foreign sales subsidiary. It took the Philips Incandescent Light Works (NV Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken), officially founded in 1891, four decades to reach the top of the lighting industry.

Frits Philips blijft echter in Nederland. Philips had daarvoor joden in dienst.
